The kid obviously can play guitar, but I know a lot of guys that can play Stevie style guitar. It seems like there's about a million of 'em now. I'm glad Joe knows how to mix it up so he's not lumped in w/ the rest of 'em.

I know what you mean but this guy is super young, I don't actually think he is much of an SRV clone(not like some other guys). As he grows older and matures I'm sure he'll be able to create his own unique way of playing.
Hi bipolar- I made a post about meeting Patrick at the Kenny Wayne Shepherd concert last month.

I think Patrick Droney is GREAT!!! I think it's a compliment to Joe that Patrick considers him such a big inspiration. Being only 14 years old and spreading the blues=keeping the blues alive and introducing the blues to a younger audience. Patrick is writing his own music and is working on his first CD. Like Jess said, he's super young, I wouldn't classifly him as a SRV clone at all...he's still evolving and finding his way. He goes to school full time.
After I made my original post I checked out Patrick's website. Beyond his musical talent, the kid has a big heart! Patrick and his sister were born with a rare blood disease which had them visiting doctors/hospitals alot. He took up guitar because he couldn't play sports with his condition. He witnessed lots of kids experiencing much worse pain and sorrow than himself and decided to help others by raising money and has done and continues to do an incredible job. Check out the videos on his website, go to the one on the bottom right, Patrick and his sister Josephine (10th grader, wants to be a doctor) were honored on the Montel's show for their fund raising; I admire both of them.
http://www.havingvonwillebrands.org/ Kids this age can be really self absorbed, I think Patrick's truly remarkable and he's only in 9th grade!! I look forward to seeing him as Joe's warm-up someday soon!

C'mon guys, I don't see a stevie rip off in this kid at all, in fact he reminds me a lot of joe, wiht much less experience. With Time this kid is gonna be in the same category as Joe, fantastic player. I cant wait wo see where he goes.
Wow...I overlooked your post angela. I didnt realize he had Von Willebrands...I work at "The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp" Its a camp for kids with serious lifethreatening illness' such as Von willebrands, hemophelia, cancer, hiv, ect. Im suprised that he was well enough to practice so much! He seems like a strong kid and a fantastic guitar player as well!
Peace,
Conner
I just read about that kid in the newspaper. He mentioned Joe as one of his influences. I went to his website www.patrickdroney.com LOOKOUT that kid can play........
He is a one of a kind talent.
wow well i just realized he is only 14. then i guess that really is amazing.
he's super good for someone so young. great tone. I am sure his style will evolve more with age. I certainly couldn't play at that level when I was 14.
I've gotten some emails from Patrick and he is very kind. I am looking forward to his new CD which he told me yesterday he is currently wrapping up. I wish for him the brightest future.
P.S. Almost forgot, yes he is VERY COMPLIMENTARY of Joe and credits his influence.
He's awesome! It said he won the new generation award at that robert johnson festival. I'm playing at that festival next summer! maybe he will be there again!
