Off to see Wishbone Ash tomorrow night. Always sound great live. Love the duet guitars. Superb Musicians. They're playing Pacific Road in Birkenhead tomorrow, catch 'em where you can.

Totally agree with you Geoff although I will have to wait until October. I first saw them in 1971 on their Pilgrimage tour and seen them many times since. Apart from the Argus songs, I love hearing live Way of the World, Persephone, FUBB and Tales of the Wise. Guitar playing at its best.

I got there Live Dates albumn back in the dayand really love it.Kind of lost track of them .How's their more current material ,same sound?

Well there are two versions of the band - Andy Powells, which for me still retains the moral rights to the name, and ex-bassist Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash.
Fair enough, Turner wrote and sang a lot of the original songs, but Andy kept the name out there and they tour religiously and still record fresh material, which sounds good. There album 'Bona Fide' from 2007 was particularly good.
What I found really great about the band is that since they brought in Finnish guitarist Muddy Manninen they have taken flight again. Muddy is an LP player and his tone has totally boosted the Ash sound. Plus he is a fabulous guitarist in every sense and plays monster slide. Andy has upped his game in response.
There is a great DVD where you can see this in action 'Live in Hamburg'. It was filmed at the Fabrik in Hamburg. I was there and can confirm this is a true rendition of a great evening!

First time i saw Wishbone Ash, in a cold wet field in Buxton, Derbyshire 73/4, not sure which one... 
Just before the release of Argus..... I was impressed, been an Ash fan ever since. I've seen both Ash bands...... i don't have a favourite..... i just love their music!! Long live Ash..

i love them. see them a couple times every year, going to ashcon................but only the real ones, and thats andy powell.

Your memory is playing tricks with you again Brack. Argus was 1972 so it could have been the "4" album tour. Was it Ted Turner or Laurie Wisefield on guitar? That'll stretch your memory even further

Thanks Kenny, the memory does play tricks..... I do know Ted Turner was playing,so, it was 72

Captain Beyond were also there.... although not on the Bill.

Cool Brack. Glencoe were the support band when I saw them. Wasn't Sonja Kristina drop dead gorgeous then? And how were Steppenwolf?

Really enjoyed Martin Turner's version at High Voltage last year and when Ted Turner joined for 3 -4 songs, it brought me way back..................but Andy deserves all the kudos for keeping the name and band alive.

Hmmm... Sonja, exactly ... drop dead gorgeous, i think i had a Sounds poster of her. Steppenwolf... not sure..... could have been in the beer tent..... it was a 3 dayer!!

Wow, what a brillaint concert it was on Friday - they have upped their game quite a bit since I saw them last year. New sound system, and guess what, they now employ baffles around the amps and mic behind them - wonder where they got that idea from?? Sound was superb and Muddy's playing was even better than I rmember last time. Check out his playing on this track I recorded on Friday.
