Re: Good Cheap Amp?

Sounds like a potentially good combo to me. My pedalboard has the usual culprits - Wah, delay, chorus (2), a compressor/sustainer (use that for my Ricky 360/12), TS9 and a Hotcake Bluesberry. The Class 5 has no issues with any of them.

I'd like to try one of those tonelabs, but my better half will choke me if I bring home any more goodies!  lol

Go for it! The Class 5 is now available in the traditional covering, cream, red and a kind of bright green, but I haven't seen that one yet.

Nothin' but the Blues

Re: Good Cheap Amp?

Your doing the right thing asking for help. Most who are new to guitar will usually buy a cheap guitar-amp combo set up. Most any music shop keeps plenty in stock. You'll trip over them walking in. Yes it's a inexpensive starter setup and yes if your not going to keep playing then your only out a couple hundred bucks. Craigslist is full of these el cheapo combo sets and if they do sell, it's only for pennies. My suggestion would be to buy something you will be able to get your money back on. Yep, it will cost you extra initially, but you won't end up with a closet full of useless junk.

Re: Good Cheap Amp?

Josh if you plan on using the modeling on the Tonelab than you really want an amp with a good clean channel and I am guessing that would take the Class 5 out, never played one but it is a Marshall not known for cleans. I have the ToneLab LE (Silver Pedal) I never could get the modeling to sound good through my Marshall Jubilee, But really its a marshall it sounds great on its own. So I never use the modeling with the Marshall or the Peavey either but that is me. I use the Modeling side for practice and home recording when I can't fire up the amps.

Now if your using just the Effects on the Tonelab than I would say go for the Class 5 or whatever other amp you like. That is how I used to run my tonelab as effects only then into the Marshall I liked that combo enough but after lots of gigs the tonelab is in retirement due to a bad switch and I am back to pedals.

Try as many amps as you can, go to you tube listen to demos - take those with a grain of Salt because its not you playing though them. You will find a great amp in that price range.
