Topic: Hi from a lurking 2-year veteran

I have been a member of the forum for some months but have not posted. I have read the threads about new members who ask for the presale code as their first post and I can empathize about the fears of scalpers, etc. But I have to start somewhere, so here I am!

I have been an ardent fan of Joe for over 2 years; own all of his albums, have been to 3 shows (would have been more if I had been able to get tickets). geez, I just ordered his signature Fuzz Face, pick tins, coffee mugs, t-shirts (to add to my collection of 4). I dislike scalpers more than most. As someone said, "damn, I want to see the show"

Sorry if this sounds too defensive, but I have detected a bit of an "us" and "them" attitude from some recent posts. Anyway, with a smile on my face, and good will in my heart I'm jumping in.

Welcome, Wolf! Your introduction is a perfect example of what 'we' mean in your 'us' and 'them' context. 'We' hope that every newbie that appears will wind up being a regular poster and contributor - the more the merrier - sadly, 'we' have (unavoidably) noticed that a very large number of newbies make one or two usually ticket-related posts, and then disappear for ever. Inevitably, this tends to breed a bit of (perhaps not always warranted) suspicion amongst those of us who have been posting here for some time (whether regularly or not).

My personal opinion is that anyone new intending to take part in the 'life' of this forum, would do well to start out with an introductory post such as yours. In that spirit, welcome again Wolf, and maybe you could also mention what part of which continent you're from (pretty sure you're in the US) and things like age, gender and how you came to be Bonamafflicted?  wink

Well said George.

I haven't been in intro's as much as I should have in the recent past, and in fact, over the winter months I wasn't participating in forum life as such.

I was reading threads but just couldn't find anything to add or say. It gets you like that sometimes. I was actually considering changing my username to 'Threadkiller' as anytime I anything posted the thread promptly died!

But that is how it can be. This forum is a great place to be. If you have 'lurked' then you have read some and the stuff and know that already, whether you have something to say or not. We are not elitist even if that is what some would believe. Not so. We just feel that sharing a little in the community goes a long way.

Fact is, this is a forum where you can say something like that and NOT be flamed. A self regulating democracy appears to exist here. The party of common sense is alive as well.

As for threads dying, I just tell myself I must have written THE defintive post and there is nothing more to say!

Now if thats not arrogant elitism I dunno what is!

Having spent many, many years participating in various online "communities," I can tell you that Bonamassaville is by far the warmest, friendliest bunch of folks you could ever hope to encounter. I like to attribute that to the sunny disposition of the guy who's name is on the forum, and to the sort of fans he attracts...

Hay Wolf,  Welcome !    This Forum was my first foray into the unknown computer world after just getting the hang of basic e-mail.

Believe me when I tell you I have found all to be welcoming, generous, and kind enough not to comment on my mistakes in posting.

Bring your authentic self to this Forum and you will be embraced and respected, if my short experience means anything.

It does start with the top down, so I agree that it is Joe himself who attracts the quality of people around him thru the gift of his music.

He works hard to bring it to us, so you might consider joining his Street Team to spread the word about his music.

Also check out his non-profit, the "Keeping The Blues Alive" Foundation.  Joe creates instructional videos to be used in schools and even buys instruments for schools hard hit by budget cuts.   Supporting what means most to Joe is a great way to show the love and thanks to him.

When I first saw the recent responses to the old intro (over two years old), I thought the thread resurrection was interesting. 

Then I noticed the recent "guitar registry" post by wolf21m, and the "bump" of this thread made a bit more sense, seeing as how airportdon had responded over there, as well.

Now to see if the OP has much more to say....

Here's hoping.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.
