Topic: HELP-If Heartaches Were Nickles

Hey all....I am new to the forum but a huge fan of Joe B.!! I am currently learning the live version of this tune and have it pretty much down except for the lick that starts at 4:36 and continues for 3 1/2 beats over Am/Dm before resolving back to Am---For the life of me I cannot get the note pattern and am probably overthinking it...

Here is the vid:

Does anyone know what the pattern is --- ????

Thanks everyone in advance for your help!!

Re: HELP-If Heartaches Were Nickles

That's one of my very favorite clips on Youtube!

Don't have a guitar in front of me to work out the exact pattern, but you're probably overthinking it.  It looks like it's based on a minor pent box pattern in A, and that 4:36 lick sounds like two four note groups.  Listen to one group of four at a time and try to get the highest note in your ear, then work backwards.

Re: HELP-If Heartaches Were Nickles

Thanks for the response....I have tried a lot of combinations/The lick after this that resolves to Am is a 12 note repetative run of d/e/g/e....etc......I think that is part of it and my guess is the starting note is on a then ???? If you have a chance to spend a couple of minutes with it let me know what you think....Thanks again......MF

Sounds like hes bending the D up (on the G string) then G (on the B string) then catch the D on the way down, E (on the B string) and rinse and repeat D G D E repeat.
I have the DVD somewhere I'll pull it out and slow it down 'cause thats just insane speed tbh...

Just do yourself a favour and download the video, open it with Quicktime player and slow the audio down...
