Topic: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

does anyone know why he uses straight jacks?   smile

Re: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

I think it's because he uses so many guitars on the road, and every now and then there will be new guitars he will take with him.
He can use a straight jack with actually any guitar, and angled jacks aren't that nice when he has a new type of guitar with him.

I was going to say because Neutrik doesn't make a right angle Silent Plug... but they do!

Re: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

Maybe its the same reason I don't like them, because every one you come across the solder joint breaks and you gotta go get it fixed.  Never had a straight 1/4 plug

I have them on my Mogamis...yet surely the main reason why is that he loops it through the guitar strap like so many other players...the strain is taken away...? Clapton et al.
I do this if I have to resort to straight jacks and it works nicely.

Re: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

Straights are easier to use when swapping guitars constantly.  Like Joe does . . .

Re: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

Ha, that's funny. I use right angle cables, but I connect the right angle part to my pedalboard and the straight end into the guitar. I honestly never even considered doing it vice versa. Go figure. I like that the right angle keeps the cable tight to the side of my board. I find it more manageable on stage.

I don't like a right angle plug on a strat.

I always go through the guitar strap.. it keeps me from stepping on it!

Re: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

i never really used angled plugs.

lately i've been thinking i need one for the new les paul.  my buddy was sitting on the couch in my music room playing it and the straight plug was digging into the cushion!  i said, "hey.  careful there.  you might damage that cable".  so now i think i might get one just for this guitar. . . .

silly?

not silly. I have a cord that's angled on one side and straight on the other. so you can switch it up.

Re: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

I just ordered some connectors and then saw this about the silent plugs! Might have to make a new order and get a few of those. Thanks for the link.

Re: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

Right angle cables only for my Les Paul...no more broken cables for me!  Seems I sit down to play more often these days so it also saves the leather cushions on the couch too.  I tolerate the right angle with my Strat which I rarely play anyway.  This discussion gets me wondering...can right angle plugs be used on a Tele without changing the standard plug socket?

My problem with wireless, is that with all that freedom I might do something stupid!!!

Isn't that what rock and roll is all about?!

Re: why doesnt joe use right angled jacks?

my problem is they have noise gates built into them and you can't get microphonic feedback that can come in by accident sometimes but sounds awesome on solos.  I know this because I read where Zakk Wylde was standing infront of his amp full volume and the would feedback.  So he only uses cables because of it.

Yeah, that's my reason too!!  big_smile
I actually never liked the feel with wireless systems. Although I'm sure there are better sounding and less intrusive systems out there.
