Topic: Toronto...and the tour is done!

I was one of the 22-hundred people who got to watch Joe and the guys close out the current tour at Toronto's Massey Hall tonight. It was my first time seeing him play live, and the show was beyond words. The man plays hard for 2.5 hours and doesn't stop to take a breath. I've been a fan for a while now. And while we all know about his mad guitar skills, I was truly struck by his voice. His vocals have such passion, honesty and balls-out blues tone. Just spectacular.
And before the final song, "Just got Paid," he walks out in a Team Canada jersey with "Bonamassa" on the back. Nice!
Joe.. I hope you enjoyed your first night in Toronto. 'Cause we were honored to have you.
Come back soon,
Thomas

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

Cool news TorontoJoeFan.  Joe's voice is incredible and to do it night after night.....amazing.  The man is great.  Spread the word to the unfortunates who know not their blues.

I would've went with a Leafs jersey as they have always been my second favorite team, but Joe knows what to do to win over
Bonamasses, eh?!!! Wish I could've been to any of the Canada shows.  sad

Yes, as Brack said, WELCOME, stick around, post again.  Joe's got 3 weeks off.  Good time to catch breath and catch up on things!

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

I was one of the lucky 2200 last nite. Second time seeing Joe here in Canada. One thing I noticed last nite was how the new drummer, Tal Bergman, was a real big part of the show. Joe really played off him last nite. When I saw him with Bogie Bowles, he seemed more in the back just keeping time. Whole show was just awesome. Enjoyed thoroly. Wish he played around here more often.

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

I was at the meet-n-greet earlier in the day (see my other post)

A fan gave Joe the Team Canada jersey.. (actually the fan had 2.. one for Joe to wear and one for Joe to sign)...

Great night.

Wow, didn't know that, a generous fan big_smile

Where was this meet and greet? Too bad I missed it.

Anyway, definately was an awesome show. He did sign my guitar strap post show, and the funny thing is it's somewhat different from most of the other signatures I've seen him do, I suppose since there were about 30 people crowding him and it was a small space (for him to sign). Anyway, definately a great show.

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

Bummer didn't know he was hidding out after the show too..

Were was he after the show?

yes there was a invite only pre-show meet by sponsored by some radio shows or like me a Long and McQuade contest.

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

Definitely a great show last night.  Joe was in stellar form (as usual) and I thought Tal really helped take it to another level with his energy, enthusiasm, and obvious sense of humour.

I didn't keep track of the full set-list but I was happy to see a number of songs from Joe's earlier albums.

LOVED the parade of killer guitars and seeing Joe close out the night in his personalized Team Canada hockey jersey was SO great.

I've got my fingers crossed that SOMEBODY captured the audio...if so, could you please drop me a line?  PLEASE?

Ah, very cool.

A crowd gathered at the stage exit doors (as expected) where his busses were, which was on the left of the building (when facing the front door) towards the back (of the building). He took pictures and stuff, but I left right after he signed my thing which took about 5 seconds and so I don't know how long he stayed and whatnot. After the show we just went and stood there and waited for maybe 10 minutes and he came out.

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

We were lucky enough to meet him and the band in the afternoon when they arrived for sound check. We were going to Massey Hall to pick up our tickets and lo and behold there was the tour bus just pulling up to the hall. Joe and his band were very friendly and took pictures with us,what an absolute honour to meet such down to earth people to start our visit to Toronto. As earlier posters stated the show(my first time seeing Joe) was totally off the charts, what a talent and what a band, the absolute complete package. Can't wait for Oct. to see him in Detroit.

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

The Winter tour was amazing. I saw Joe in GR, MI. Glad to see it was a successful wrap-up in Toronto.  I anxiously anticipate the Fall tour.  My event will be in the D at the fabulous Fox.

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

Interesting week. When we met Joe & Roy last fall in Hampton Beach they told us they`d come in Montréal end of March. I waited as long as I could for an announcement before having to commit to a vacation with my wife to Mexico 3rd week of March. Still no date announced yet.

In the mean time my father in law surprised us and bought the whole family tickets to see Yanni on March 31st in Montreal, one day after we came back from Mexico !!! (Don`t laugh people, the show was actually pretty amazing, very high quality musicians, even though definitly not my cup of tea). But of course after the tickets were bought, they announced the Montreal date for the 31st, which meant I couldn`t go, because of Yanni. Thank God for Toronto !!!

So my son and I used our Litho 2 privilege for both tickets & M&G and decided to drive 6+ hours to attend Joe`s last show of this leg of the tour. Before we drove to Toronto however we did a pit stop to Steve`s Music Store in Montreal and Jord bought himself a brand new Strat, to go along with the Les Paul. Then it was off to Toronto.

We arrived on the Friday and just fooled around when we got there. On the Saturday we walked all over the place to get familiar with the surroundings before spotting a Tim Burton Exhibition downtown. Pretty amazing stuff and one weird dude. Then getting back to the hotel, and getting ready for the M&G. There were about 20-25 people also waiting to see Joe. Around 16:30 we were brought to the entrance of the concert hall where Joe was already there and waiting for us. Immediately he took control of the situation, probably knowing we were all just too nervous to say anything. He was so relaxed and cool and joking with the crowd. Then it was time for items getting signed and pictures. It lasted about 30 minutes. Short but sweet. When we left I said to my son, now this is how a rock star should behave and treat his fans. I was very impressed by the guy. And of course the new guitar also got signed.

After a quick bite, it was back to the venue for the concert itself. I won`t bother with the setlist as it`s been pretty much the same since the tour began, but boy was the show amazing. Sound quality was ok at first then got fixed after a few songs and it was perfect after that. Highlights for me were Sloe Gin (of course). Dust Bowl (at first I  wasn`t crazy about the studio version, but live it is so awesome), John Henry was great and Woke up Dreaming tore the place apart !!! Fantastic night. Was only my 2nd Joe show, (I`m kind of a newbee that got introduced by Glenn Hughes when he first talked about his new band last year and just got hooked). I`m planning to see him again in New-York next fall, but in the mean tine I`ll be bringing the family to San Diego for the BCC premiere and again in Hampton Beach a few days later.

Thanks again for a great evening and for being a genuine artist and human being.

Also I wanted to add that I was amazed at the amount of empty seats at Massey Hall last night. I was up in the 3d level and it was half empty. Considering one of the worlds best guitarists was in a city with 2.5 million people and he doesn't sellout really baffles me. Really can't figure out with the quality of the music he's put out and the caliber of his live performances why he's not a household name.

Cities with X and 1/x million people usually have 2X things going on at once... neutral

Truth. Stevie Nicks & Rod Stewart were playing the Air Canada Centre same night.

Great show all around. The man really lives up to expectations and hype. Had a chance to chat with him earlier in the day, he was every bit as nice and gracious as advertised.

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

I was at Massey Hall Apr 2 and finally saw Joe play.  I have never seen such a dynamic display of guitar skills and a tight tight band backing him up.  Truly an amazing,  amazing night for me and three of my friends - we are still talking about it a day and half later-it ranks in my top ten concerts of all time(I am 62 and have seen stones,  hendrix,  janis etc.)
Its too bad that this concert was not captured on HD and put out as DVD.

Re: Toronto...and the tour is done!

My wife and I enjoyed the Toronto show. I play a LP/Marshall combo, so love Joe's electric guitar mojo, but I have to admit that the acoustic number was probably the highlight of the show as far as demonstrating JB's enormous talent. Just an incredible performance. As others have noted, the sound was a little muddy and loud for the first 3 or 4 songs, but got sorted out and the rest of the setlist was wonderful.

I was really hoping to hear
