Topic: Joe mentioned on 12/10/09 that Marshall...

A few years ago there was a thread, BEST JUBILEE SUBSTITUTE and Joe responded:

"Totally Agree Jim..
DSL and a tube screamer will get you home.  They have a new amp coming out that I like better than the DSL .. Its warmer and  better suited for cleaner playing.. It will go to 20 on the gain as well.  Marshall DSL are my choice when the Jubilee's are resting..
best
Joe B"

Has anyone ever figured out which amp Joe might have been referring to?

The Vintage Modern I think was already in the stores by that time or could he have meant the ADF (Slash) or YJM (Yngwie) which I don't think have shipped yet.  Or possibly the Class 5.

Since that amp was build AFTER the DSL, I think he's meaning the Marshall Vintage Modern...

Perhaps you're right, but I think the Vintage Modern was out in the summer of 2007 which is almost a year and a half prior to Joe's posting.

I remember that post. The VM was definitely already out.
And the vintage modern doesn't go up to 20 does it?

Yeah.... you're probably right... my JCM900 has the drive-knob and that clearly says 20.. but the JCM900 is not being made anymore so that can't be it....

When I caught wind of the new YJM100 head coming out, I immediately thought of reading that same statement a while back and wondered if this was the head he was referring to.  From the sound clips, it sure does have a lot of balls and of course it is a 100w head so...  Don't know how warm it really is, since Yngwie's tone is a little trebly but theres a clip of Rob Chappers playing one at Anderton's and he uses a Les Paul for a minute and it sounded superb.  -Seth
