Topic: Barry Bonds: You Filthy Cheat!

Bond's perjury trial has heated up and I'd like to hear others take on the moral decline of our former heroes.  I personally want all the records of athletes who've used performance enhanced drugs erased from the record books and banned from entering their sport's Hall Of Fame.  In the case of Bonds he didn't need the drugs to seal his entry to Cooperstown, but he couldn't stand Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa stealing his thunder.  Despicable.  I'm even starting to wonder if Tiger Woods was juiced up as well.  A complete erosion of ethics and too many people screaming "Me, me, me!".
I'm angry as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore! (teehee....)

Re: Barry Bonds: You Filthy Cheat!

but he didnt know he was taking steroids!!!!!!  LOL.............!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Barry Bonds: You Filthy Cheat!

I don't know about the Barry Bonds case but, when the steaks are so high, the pressures to cheat are immense. It has put me off taking an interest in sports like athletics & others... Oh, and it's just not sport.... you find performance enhancing drug taking in most walks of life today .... sadly.... but it goes on.  A cynical view, i know!  hmm

Curby,
I understand where you are coming from, and although it does not make it right as to how they acquired their record, I think some of the athletes, especially in baseball, were using when there were no rules banning those substances. I am not defending them, and think that if they were using when the substance was banned, it should disqualify them from holding any records.

Re: Barry Bonds: You Filthy Cheat!

So many cheated that weren't caught, it seems unfair to single out Bonds. Universal testing for all sports is the only way IMO. It was still classic though, when the fan at Petco Park threw out the giant syringe onto the field when Bonds came to the on deck circle. lol

Although they may have not been banned from baseball at that time, I am fairly certain that these were/are drugs that require a prescription to obtain, so those athletes were breaking the law.

I should care, but I don't.  MLB knew what was going on.  Many players and management personnel did too.  They all looked the other way because the big numbers were creating huge amounts of excitement for their sport and lined their pockets.  Bonds may be the steroid era poster child from the perspective of the Feds, but the list of guilty parties is too long to single out any one guy.  I guess justice after the fact is something, but the record books have been written and nothing is going to erase them.  So in the end, I just chalk it up to an interesting era and move on to the next.

Right on Rhonda, then Babe Ruth's records should be deleted since Blacks & Latin players weren't allowed to challenge him when he played.....right?????

Shreddy, didn't you hear them break that down on KNBR? I forget the technical name, but it's a string of beads that graduate in size to make an accurate measurement. WHO KNEW?....til now.

If they're to change the record books simply sum it up as the "steroid era" and let it go! Speaking of GO!.... GO! GIANTS!!!!!!!
