Topic: 2-23-11 Albuquerque show was EXCELLENT!

First time to see Joe live.

Here in Albuquerque, we generally don't get many tours bothering to stop, as it's the only decent-sized city in New Mexico - and the radio stations are all corporate-owned (Citadel) formula robots that don't play anything new. Sad that an artist of his quality isn't better known here.

Disappointing turnout, far from sold out - which allowed a 4th-row experience 2nd to none!
Masterful performance, as I'm guessing is "normal" from this guy - (started promptly on time while I was still at will call) and the sound quality was tops - perfect acoustics, natural hall reverb, and 2 hours of Joe without an opening act or a break -  I mean the guy doesn't even drink water between songs!

High points were "Sloe Gin" (phenomenal), the acoustic solo playing his Alvarez Yairi (beyond phenomenal), and the Gibbons/Page cover blend encore. Best show I've seen in years.

We took the time to meet him after the show - he signed autographs for all, including a guy's Strat that he'd brought down from Colorado and a Bonamassa bobble-head doll - funny stuff! Super nice guy, hopefully he'll come back through on his next tour!

Re: 2-23-11 Albuquerque show was EXCELLENT!

It was the first Joe show for me and my wife.  I have been following Joe's music for a few years now and have been waiting and hoping for a show in my area.  We live in southwest Colorado (Durango), so when I saw Albuquerque (four hour drive)on the tour schedule I knew I had to go.  I told my wife that all I wanted for Christmas this year were tickets to see Joe.  Needless to say, I got tickets.

We were sitting in the fourth row on the left.  The seats were close enough to see all the action and there was plenty!  The guy just tore it up nonstop, no breaks other than a few words the whole show.  The highlight for me was probably Woke Up Dreaming.  He got to show that he could handle an acoustic guitar with as much expertise as an electric.  I came expecting a show to remember and got what I wanted and much more.  My wife is now an instant fan and had no knowledge of Joe prior to the show other than the CD I put together of the Anahiem set list a week ago that I played for her in the car on the ride down.

If your interested in the set list check out the post on the Anahiem show thread, its the same list for the Abq show.  The guitars used in the show are also mentioned in the thread.

After the show we hung out at the tour bus for a little while hoping for a brief meet and greet and he was kind enough to accomidate the dozen or so people that waited with us.  I got him to autograph my Strat (should have brought the LP but dont like traveling with it).  Problem now is I dont want to ruin the signature on the pickguard by playing it.  Any ideas?  Joe's fans are also a great group of people and just make the show that much better.  (Shoutout to the Longmont, Co die hards!)

I hope Joe makes the Abq area a regular stop on future tours.  The turnout was good but probably not sold out.  Im sure that people were hearing stories of what they missed out on the next day.  Anyone else who visits this site and were at the Abq show should let there presence and interest in seeing him again known to ensure we dont get skipped over next time around.

Come back, Joe. SOON!!!

I would have to say the best (and possibly only) way is to buy a 2nd pickguard, install it and save the autographed one for when the Strat is retired.

Sharpie just won't last - but it wouldn't have on the back of the guitar either

Don't know what the chemical interaction might be, be figured the next time I would try a spraycan clearcoat. Ought to work.

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster

Was thinking of some type of protective film.  I would like to play it with the signature on it.

Its now a Robert Cray/Joe Bonamassa signature strat.  Dont see them too often.

He did tell me it came with a lifetime guarantee and that he would resign it if needed.  Im not going to give him a chance to make good on it.  Next time Ill bring the vinyl to be signed

WHOOOO!  Come back Joe!

Re: 2-23-11 Albuquerque show was EXCELLENT!

I was fortunate enough to see the show front row center. I could have had free tickets but gladly paid the premium. Happly I was able to introduce two of my music loving friends to Joe's incredible show. They had downloaded several songs and were very impressed. Even though I had tried to express what they were about to experience I knew that seeing was believing. Joe as always exceded all our expectations. Do not pass up on the opportunity to see this guy in person because this will be the story all yours friends tell you about when they were there at that one show back in they day.
