Re: Amp for a novice
Has anyone played any of the Fender Mustangs? Yea, yea, I know it's not tube, but it's been getting good reviews as far as modeling amps go, kind of like the scanner/printer/fax all-in-one of affordable amps.

How do these stack up against the Peavey Vypyr's?
I've got a Vypyr 15 and it's really good to get you started.
However, I'm wanting to move away from the modelling amps and am also interested in a small, low watt tube amp that can take 'phones as well. (Don't want to wake the little 'un up.)
I recently built a germanium fuzz pedal (BYOC ESV Fuzz. It's great) that I think would sound much better run through a few tubes to open it up a bit more.
EDIT: Fuzz pictures here---> http://www.buildyourownclone.com/board/ … mp;t=29359
I want to build more pedals too.
I've looked at the VOX AC4TV, especially for the 1/4W setting, but no 'phones output.
Marshall Class 5 looks good, but has it's problems. The MK2 due soon looks better but is way too pricey ATM.
I've even looked at building my own from a kit (eg, ampmaker.com) but these are also quite expensive once you factor in the cabs etc, plus my carpentry skills are zero...I couldn't even nail 2 bits of wood together to save my life.
Decisions...decisions...
