Topic: Stop! Backing Track

Hey all,

I spent the weekend putting together another backing track for a JB song.  This time, it is Stop!, the old Sam Brown classic that Joe covers on BoJH.

I'd appreciate any constructive feedback from more experienced recording artists and musicians.  This is pretty much my first attempts at recording anything.

This is added to the backing for Sloe Gin that I did a couple of weeks back:

You can download the MP3 for these by clicking on the little black 'down arrow' along the top of each track.

Hope you have fun jamming along to them...

Devan, these are both Ace!!! Thank you! Can you submit these tracks to guitarbackingtrack.com?

Thanks. Just great to be able to play along to these, even in my own limited way! Must take a lot of effort and really appreciate your putting the time in.

Haha - Thanks guys for the great feedback on these.

Yes, they are a bit of hard work to put together, but ultimately, it is a lot of fun too.  I am a big fan of Joe's music.  I think I heard in an interview somewhere that he thought 'Sloe Gin' was a song that people just needed to get out and play, and I hope that creating that backing track will make this possible for a lot of solo artists/guitarists.

In creating these, I had to listen to these tracks repeatedly at a whole new level, and I must say that my respect for Bogie on drums and Carmine on bass has been increased tenfold.  Some of those 'off beat' fill ins that Bogie does are just mind blowing.  I think on the Sloe Gin track, I must have spent about 20% of my time on just ONE drum fill, and it still isn't right.

Carmine is the master of the understated.  He 'says' just enough on bass to lay a solid foundation that Joe builds upon.  His no frills basswork sounds simple, yet is extremely difficult to stay in the groove in the relaxed manner that he does.

I've also learnt a lot about arrangement in general, especially the way that the brass/strings usually come in one beat late on most bars - same with the rhythm guitar parts.

Enjoy!
