Topic: Pedal settings

Hello all,

Does anyone know what settings Joe uses for both the Boss Delay and the Way Huge Pork Loin? I know I've read on here that Joe points all the knobs on the DD-3 to 12:00, but in his newest rig rundown video, it just doesn't sound like it to me.

As for the Pork Loin, I just bought one from GC today (should be here on Tuesday) and I'm curious as to how Joe sets his up. I've been searching (endlessly) for the 'right' OD pedal and this one is next on the list. I play in a trio and every time I take a guitar solo, it seems like the sound just empties out so I'm looking for a pedal that has that certain something that will make things seem fuller. From the videos I've seen of the Pork Loin, this might be the one. I sure as hell hope so!

There are many threads here on Joe's WHPL settings...but only for the external controls.

As far as I know, he uses the DD3, with everything on 12...I didn't notice a difference in the last rig vid.. but I wasn't looking out for a difference.

I would recommend you set the delay to how it sounds good for you, regardless of his actual settings.

Something else is to consider is pedals can vary and just because he set his at noon doesn't mean your pedal is going to do exactly the same thing his is doing.  Other things just throwing this out there is maybe they have a different Versions out there is his a little older then yours?  Maybe yours is older then his and he's got a new one.  I got no idea but I do agree that you gotta set that puppy to what sounds good to you.

Joe mentions in a video that George Tripp has tweaked that pedal for him. You may not be able to totally duplicate what he's got.

Actually on the pork loin tweaking the inside you can do yourself. When you take the cover off the circuit board has three knobs on it that you can adjust. If you have the manual it tells you what the knobs do. maybe you can ask Joe to look at them and tell us what they are at

I have a DD3 and when ran in front of the amp with all knobs it noon it is too overwhelming. I now have it run in the loop of the amp with all knobs at noon and it sounds great. Try it in the loop if your amp has one.


I have a pork loin also and set everything at 12. I've never touched the internal trim pots. Try everything at 12 and make small adustments from there.

I think that you should buy pedals like Joe but it doesn't matter how he sets them because no matter what you are never going to make it sound like him, he has a unique sound, I mean I have the tube screamer ts-808 reissue the pork loin the DD-3 the vox V847 wah and i don't set them the same mainly because theres an artist i'm good friends with that told me that instead of using a different overdrive for different sounds you can layer the overdrive pedals. like my pork loin is always on. It adds a nice clean boost that is like having a controllable pre-amp and with my 1964 fender showman thats a good thing to have. Next that adds my kind of like crunch is a Boss bluesdriver. and the pork loins level is set at like 9 and the boss is at 12 with gain at 12. this way when i kick it on its only a slight boost. now thats about to change because i'm buying a 1983 Ibanez tube screamer to replace its place. Next witch is my lead boost is the tube screamer ts-808 and that has the level all the way up and the gain at like 9. Now this is perfect for my Les Paul but i mainly play strats and thats not enough if i wanna do a Hendrix rock tune. So i'm going to buy the JBF3 fuzz face that ill kick in for a extra boost on the strats and i'd use that sparingly. now my delay is set the way i want it very slight but noticable enough to give texture. and the wah is all stock. and soon i'm buying a maxon af-9 auto filter that would just take some of the noise of these pedals off. And soon im upgrading to a pedaltrain pro and voodoo lab pedal power. and thats my board pretty much.

Re the above post, + 1.

As an instance- TS's work best when boosting an amp already at volume. They're not great at boosting an amp at bedroom or rehearsal levels - the OCD is much better at that as is the timmy. If you play Fender amps, again, TSs may not have enough bite.

Re delays/reverb- also Joe plays huge enormodromes compared to most of us. I wil always tweak wet pedals for the room- more delay in a smaller or lower roofed room.

I also find a lot of good tones stacking OD pedals.
