Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Ain't no green fingers in this house, Angela.  big_smile  But the 'world famous' flower market (with special USA export bulbs) is only 10 minutes away, so any time....though I'm guessing that I'm likely to land in Philly before you land over here.  wink

Yup, plenty on that list I didn't recognize either, but hell, the Goddess must be a music encyclopedia of the last 40 years by now. What she doesn't know is probably not worth knowing.  wink

(And big kudos and hugs to you for your breast cancer efforts!)

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Woo Hoo !!!!!

Bonnie is playing some shows in the Southland soon.

Pala Casino on January 21.

I just found out about this.  Most of the good seats are already gone.

I bought 2 tickets, not great seats, but seats none the less

Bonnie is on of my wife's favorite artists.

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Just uploaded a new video of Bonnie. The name of the song is "Gnawin' On It" with Roy Rogers on slide guitar.

Thanks to a friend of Cathy's for posting this gem for lovers of The Goddess and Lowell George on youtube -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4tJiyU_gjY - dear God, nearly 40 years ago...

....which led me to watching this again for the first time in ages...and I swear, when Bonnie started her solo I got an attack of the shivers all over....ok, more goosebumps than actual shivers, but you know what I mean.

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Both are most excellent, thanks George and Cathy and friend. Lowell looks so young there, and apparently Bonnie thought he was pretty hot.  roll Anyway, I must have a copy of that CD from '72. also grew up listening to a lot of Linda, another angelic voice. Together they are really special. I'd never seen or heard Gnawin On It, that really is rocking as well.

I love it. Curby, there's a thread on Linda, another fav of mine. I happen to be a fan of Mariachi music and she is regarded by aficianodos as a Queen of the art. Here is a command performance.

Thanks George for the beautiful song.  Didn't Dave Mason write it?  It would be nice to have that album on cd, but it looks like it's a bootleg.  I did find another collaboration of Bonnie and Little Feat on her Takin' My Time and will probably get it.

Thanks Rick, I knew she could sing that well but had no idea she can also do it in Spanish. I usually complain when I go to a Mexican restaurant, about the music that is. Now I'm hoping they will take requests. Her voice hasn't changed that much through the years, regardless of being slim or a little chubby tongue (well if that's not the pot calling the kettle black). It's still gloriously  vibrant and sexy. I think I had a crush on her when in college. She was my Grace Potter of the 70's. sorry for the off topic rant.

Well, as we're surely in left field now, that music you dislike is probably "Norteno" (with tilde on the n) which is not the same. Who didn't have a crush on her?

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Linda has the voice of an angel!! Singing a duet with my Goddess is, understandably, pretty eargasmic for me.  big_smile

I've got an old video tape somewhere of Linda doing a concert at a California university round about 1980, with Billy Payne on keyboards and an all-star session cast on the other instruments (names escape me now), which is utterly stunning - in fact, I should find it and try and get it digitized.

Tres, Cool, you just uncovered this song.  In my mind, I categorize Bonnie's music: she's got folk, blues, rockin', then a combination of some or all of these genres and then just the downright hard core sassy righteous bad-girl playin' wicked guitar with a witty delivery of lyrics...that's where Gnawin' On It fits in.   big_smile

You maybe never heard of this song...if not, critique it and tell me what you think.  I am just over the moon with the song, its way more subtle than Gnawin', but just a great song that Bonnie wrote.  Crank it up really LOUD!  Zone in to the bass, the slide and the lyrics!  wink

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

I agree, Bonnie is an amazing singer and guitar player.  In college I had a cassette copy of an in studio performance at WMMR in Philly from 2/22/72 which I played until the tape wore out and hadn't heard it in many many years until I was able to get a very nice digital copy and hear it again.  Great music and great stories!!

There is also a great recording from Long Island in 72 with Lowell and John Hammond that I would recommend to all.

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

I was reminded by the 'heard Joe in Starbucks' topic that Cathy told me Starbucks are selling a Bonnie cd, or a cd with Bonnie on it (amongs others?). Do any of you (Angela?) have this cd yet or know any further details?

(This is, of course, an excellent excuse for popping down to your local Starbucks to check this out!)  tongue

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Hi George,

I stopped by Starbucks and picked up Bonnie Raitt Opus by Starbucks. Even though I have all the songs I bought it because my husband has stolen some of my Bonnie CD's to play at the office. hmm I enjoy different combos of greatest hits, so its a good CD.  In the liner notes, I learned that the Blues at Newport '63 album that 'Bonnie came across in her mid-teens fired her imagination and ultimately changed the course of her life.' I listened to clips on Amazon of this album...if you remember back, Bonnie's early stuff was folk based blending with country blues. I think this is the album she referred to.   http://www.amazon.com/Blues-Newport-Rec … B000000ECQ

Bonnie's CD at Starbucks.

This is the track list:

The Bonnie photos on the inside liner are likely from the early 70's and I thought the cover photo was stunning of Bonnie, I'm sure you'll agree.  tongue

Thanks for the info. If Cathy hasn't got it yet, I'll pick it up myself.
