Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Another foot of snow on the way today. It's coming down now. On a more positive note it's supposed to get up into the 40's (Farenheit) and rain on Monday to help shrink the snowpack. Spring is only 3 weeks away. YAY! Groundhog stew anyone?  tongue

Parts of my town are out of power from high winds and a thunderstorm last night.  Had a flash flood warning too.

Huge non event. A good day to fertilize the trees and rosebed.  lol  lol  lol
edit: Spoke too soon. The temp is rapidly dropping and we just had a good hailstorm. Time to throw another log on the fire.

Where's the snow that was being predicted?  I wanted to wake up to some gosh  darn snow.  Instead it's clear skies this morning with a little frost on the roofs.

Snow is nothing more than a four letter word and I can think of a few more four letter words to describe it. Enough winter already!! roll

Yeah, I was hopin' too. The mountains and hills in the back country got a lot, 2 feet in the Lagunas, but the icy blast never happened down here, a couple of hail storms was it and low 40's at the beach. Oh well, next year?

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

There has got to be something going on, whether you want to call it global warmimg or not. Last 2 weeks here have been much warmer than normal, we had highs last week and over the weekend in the mid to upper 70's. There is no transition period as usual???, sure we still have a few colder days to come.
Because of the heat, we have a good chance for some severe thunderstorms today, possibly even a tornado or two.  yikes
This is 2/28 right? This weather usually starts up in mid to late April. Sounds like the groundhog didn't see anything.

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

it is now officially monsoon season, we have had a scary day with as many as 12 counties under a tornado warning. The weather maps look like a clown threw up his lunch. We are OK, but have heard of much damage in Tuscaloosa. I have to give it up to these guys, they have been on continuously since around 4PM CDT. They will try to educate you, but it's the same stuff over and over, think weather soap opera.

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Really sorry for our mid-west and mid-Atlantic friends....allow me, for once, to play Californian.  big_smile

North-west Europe is currently enjoying a stationary blob of high pressure, resulting in temperatures in the 70's and 80's, depending on where you are. Not only that, we are having an entire week of "summer" in April, since these temperatures, together with the clear blue skies and sunshine are meant to continue till after Easter!  cool   lol

However, past experience has shown that we often look back in September with great nostalgia to that one week in April, when we're wondering what happened to the rest of the summer.  sad

We had a severe storm blow through that night that caused some property damage, downed trees and power outages for a few days.  We had a second round friday night followed by non-stop thunder and lightning and five plus inches of rain saturday.  It's still raining to beat the band the first fifteen minutes of Easter Sunday and I doubt there'll be many egg hunts today.
There is a silver living of sorts though.  Friday afternoon, between the two tornado watches, my Son's golf team beat an Illinois State Champion and barely lost to the number 5 ranked team in Indiana.
