AC/DC - "If You Want Blood......You've Got It".
NEON PARK !
Any number of legendary Feat covers.
Budgie Never Turn Your back on a Friend and of course that nasty Roxy Music cover
My all-time favorite is Velvet Underground's Andy Warhol designed plnk banana. Next would be the Stones' Satanic Majesty's Request hologram cover.
Not the outside cover so much but what was inside -
In through the out door - Led Zeppelin - with an inner sleeve cover that you wet with water and the colours appear by magic!
Billion Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper - complete with 1 billion dollar note
Outside covers....
Led Zep 3
Physical Graffiti
Most Roger Dean and Hipgnosis covers
Sticky Fingers - very risque for the time!
Stand Up - Jethro Tull (they've now managed to recreate the pop-up on the remastered CD)
Houses of the Holy - Led Zep
Patty mentioned Molly Hatchet album covers. The one I remember is Flirtin' With Disaster. A lot of their cover art was the work of fantasy artist Frank Frazetta, whose work was also used for Nazareth's Expect No Mercy album
About the Court of the Crimson King, I walk by a photo of that cover everyday by my home office. I mentioned before about my oldest son being into King Crimson, prog. etc. I'm still looking for the original poster inside the album, if anyone wants to sell their's or comes across one, PLEASE let me know. Thanks.
Did anyone mention the Beatles "Abbey Road"?
Agreed ~ Sgt Peppers ~ still outstanding, so much to see
Revolver
Rubber Soul ~ distorted image was an accident, I'm sentimental about this cover
David Bowie ~ Ziggy Stardust
Cat Stevens ~Teaser and the Firecat and Tea for the Tillerman - like the cartoon innocence, peaceful childhood times
Robert Palmer~lots of cool album covers, very mischievious ~ Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley, Pressure Drop, Some People Can Do What They Like
Jethro Tull ~ Benefit
Allman Brothers ~ Live Fillmore
Caravan ~ In the Land of Grey and Pink ~ always loved the whimsy, fairy tale feel
http://www.amazon.com/Land-Grey-Pink-Ca … B00005A0V0
And how about Joe's So Its Like That ~ I'm a little gullable, when I was a newbie, Stu had me going about the car wash and the young kids and a whole made up story...
Angie the dinosaur here, still likes albums, mainly only buys CD's, very rarely downloads single tunes on itunes. I have a lot of album covers framed on walls, my hubby has the entire Led Zep collection framed on his walls by his computer. Yeah, Rocket, Led III, cool artwork with the wheel and great album. Physical Graffiti also cool.
Brack ~ Always loved Selling England by the Pound
blu69cam wrote:I like CD's because of their ease of use and size, but I really miss some of the art that was displayed on our favorite albums. With the advent of the Ipod's and other media storage devices and their ability to download music directly from the Internet I'm afraid that the next generation won't even know what an album is. The younger generation doesn't know what it missed not having the album covers to look at while the music played on. I have a lot of albums so picking out a favorite is hard. I'm going to put down a couple of names to get things going. I like King Crimson's first album, and Uriah Heep's Demons and Wizards covers.
Paul
Paul,
I'll give this a bit more thought, but I gotta tell you: When I saw this topic, King Crimson's "The Court of the Crimson King" was the first one that shot into my mind. Awesome cover and maybe even better artwork on the inside.

There are so many...but I'd say my top 5 are:
Frank Zappa..."Weasels ripped my flesh"
Hendrix ..."Axis bold as love"
Grand Funk ..."Red Album"(-2nd one)
Cactus..."Restrictions"
Savoy Brown..."Looking in"
Ha! Thanks Angela for the "way back" machine! I can't believe that King Crimson post was all the way back in June of 2007!
BTW, I don't think i saw Dust Bowl on this current list, but I like the artwork a lot. In fact, it made me pre-order my first Bonamassa mug!
..without doubt this one!
