Topic: Remember Those Concept Albums?

Stumbled upon Alan Parsons Project's Pyramid album this morning and picked up the cd with some nice bonus tracks.  I had it on vinyl, but probably haven't heard it in thirty years.  I often wonder why I can remember the lyrics to these songs and not one of the stuff I listen to now.  I Robot was probably their biggest album, but Pyramid has always been my favorite.  Seems like these type albums were real big in the Seventies.  Dark Side of the Moon is the best of the lot and sliding in #2 is this one.

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

Spartacus by Triumvirat is an outstanding concept album. Heck, it's just an outstanding album period.

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

The Alchemist by Home.....and it had a fantastic gatefold sleeve too.

never give up, never slow down
never grow old, never ever die young

Agree with you Curby. The Who's 'Tommy' was my favourite before DSOTM came along.
Also, Rush - 2112, Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway........ i could go on...  smile

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

Kiss - Music from The Elder... a good rock album, not a good Kiss album.  neutral
Their worst selling album still went certified gold.

The Oath was pretty heavy:

"I" was pretty heavy riffage too: and it had a feel good message... "I believe in me!"

"A World Without Heroes" was the big song...

It marked Ace Frehley's last album (well he was on Creature of the Night a little) and it was the first album without Peter Criss.
This is a total concept album, I was never really comfortable with Kiss putting out.

But now I can appreciate it...

Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

- King Crimson, "Court of the Crimson King" should be included in the mix....I think? And then Jethro Tull albums....? Thick as a Brick?

Doubt if this selection will get much if any support but one of favourite bands growing up; Stanglers, - their (The Gospel according to the) Meninblack album has had the concept word attached to it before.

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

Dont forget Quadrophenia my fav for concept albums of all time.
Also Tarkus by ELP always thought the cover was cool back in the day!
New one Neil Youngs Geendale actually really like the cd.

Your rock candy baby
Your hard sweet and sticky

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

There was an album by Nilsson came out in the 70s (?) called The Point, which was a bit weird.
Tommy - great album.
Pink Floyd and The Wall should be right up there as well even though that really marked the end of the band as we knew it.

+1 - I love this album. The strangest Kiss album (except maybe for Carnival Of Souls)

2112 also - although it was only half a concept album

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

As a Yes fan, i would agree. At the time..... loved the album, still have a soft spot for it now.
Yes, it was over indulgent, some would go further....!  Long pieces  were their strength, but it  also became  a weakness . There was a back-lash... shortly afterwards,  and it was called.... PUNK!

Great art work, inside and out !  smile

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

The absolute best, bar none, was Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music"

You Can Do Anything You Want To Do

Re: Remember Those Concept Albums?

Dark Side Of The Moon = Wish You Were Here = The Wall
Tubular Bells
Several of Jethro Tull's albums

These are certainly the cream of the crop  cool

Yes, still gigging and have had many line-ups over the years.... and I've never thought about buying anything John has promoted.
