That sucks Jerrdog.  Did you at least keep one of the others on order?  If not, maybe you can try a replacement neck...

Hey Chuck
The place the 2nd one came from say's they have another, with my name on it,as soon as they get this one back, they will shipp the next one and the guy told me he will take care of the packing of it himself (small shop). And yes I have got my name on a back-order list to get one in March from another internet big guy.

As far a a replacemnet neck, won't do that on one of these, that just ain't right. Now if I find out where they are sending these broken one's and selling them off,I might grab one. LOL Be nice to have all these parts on the LP I'm building. Now that would be cool.

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Just picked up mine at Guitar Center in Cherry Hill this morning and it's in great shape.  The headstock is straight and so is the neck, but there is some machine marks on the maple cap on each side of the neck so no big deal.  The pick ups sound wonderful and there is no fret buzz at all even with the action set relatively low.  A new set of strings will be the first order of business though.

Since I have orders placed with two other dealer/store (dealer is backordered and the store one should arrive Monday or Tuesday) I will cancel those on Monday so please let me know if you are interested and I will let you know the locations.

I suppose I should consider myself lucky after reading about so many mishaps however, I do consider myself very lucky that I am able to own one of Joe's Limited Edition Les Paul's.

Time to go make some noise!

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Good luck man, I hope the next one is better for you!  I still need to take the time to post some pics of mine!  I'm not sure we have room on our current memory card, so I might have to go buy one or delete some pics!

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Having placed my order on 13th September with GAK in Brighton, who were recommended to me by a friend, serial # 10101511874 was finally delivered to me yesterday. Having seen all the broken necks and twisted headstocks I had thought about picking it up myself, however, I was told that as I’d placed a mail order it would have to be sent to me – very odd. The guy I placed the order with told me that GAK had received only two of the 20 Epiphone JB Gold Tops they ordered from Gibson and they wouldn't be getting any more, so it seems for those in the UK the early bird catches the worm. big_smile I asked the guy who I placed the order with if he’d check it out before sending it and, of course, he jumped at the chance to have a little play. I couldn’t stand the suspense of not knowing if it was ok or not so I called him back in the afternoon and thankfully he said it was fine. It wasn’t until after it was despatched that I saw the posts above suggesting that the strings should be slackened off before sending by courier, so I had another thing to worry about.

It was therefore with not a small amount of fear and trepidation that I carefully opened the cardboard box that FedEx had delivered and took photos at each stage of the process just in case ……

Clearly the couriers in the UK are more respectful of property as, despite there being no additional padding or protection, it arrived safely and I’m pleased to say that, as you can see here, it all looks fine. If I were ultra fussy I could say there is a very slight twist of the headstock but, like ivbluesboy’s, it’s hardly noticeable. The protective plastic covering the pickguard is heavily scratched and I hope it hasn’t gone all the way through. The fretboard isn’t at all dirty as some have been in the States.

Not sure about the serial numbering. If others are in the range 090**, how can mine be 11874 and the run limited to 1,000?

Like Josh’s, my neck pick up 'floats', while the bridge pu is fixed. Thanks for answering this Q Spider as I was wondering about it myself. I guess the protective plastic covering the pick ups should be removed asap?

Having been mad on music all my life I thought I’d buy my first guitar before it’s too late! Now all I need to do is learn how to play it! lol

Phil,

From what I can see in your pics, I would say that there is nothing to worry about in the twisted neck area, looks fine to me!

Enjoy it and if I can help in any way with getting you started in the "playing" you only have to ask, it would be a pleasure.

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Mine arrived here in the UK this morning, just as I was setting off for work !     Thought about pulling a sickie but resisted.  Mixture of anticipation and apprehension opening the case but thankfully I'm one of the lucky ones and it's in 1 piece.   Can't see any imperfections and 1st impressions are that's it's one heck of a guitar for the price.  Dirty fretbaord as others seem to have but that's soon taken care of.   Got it from Thomann (based in Germany I think) so hopefully more will be hitting the UK pretty soon for those still waiting.

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

My wife just sent me a text saying that UPS made the delivery and with the picture of my JB Epi...all in tact.  2 hrs of work left before I can drive home to see it.  Life just got a little sweeter.  Will list on the registry tomorrow.

And here's it is...the first of the factory seconds on eBay. A flaw in the finish on the top, a scratch by the bridge post. At least the headstock is still attached.  smile
