Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

This is insane, I hope more people get theirs intact, I was  lucky it seems to have got mine headstock safe and  untwisted. If you get yours in good shape its worth the wait I have 3 Gibby Pauls and 3 other Epi ZW Pauls and the Joe. It is a great guitar the USA pup's make this a heck of a deal it plays and sounds as good as the USA's and the ZW's. I bought an acoustic a few years ago and the guy insisted  on shipping the guitar and case separate he said very few guitars can handle being shipped in the factory cases, to much wiggle room in them and a hard blow could damaged the neck, looks like he might have been right. Good Luck all.

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Ok....it's gorgeous.  GS did a set up for me and it looks and plays beautifully.  I have a bonaburst and a Gib LP Trad Plus and this Epi holds its own with both.  Great feel and tone.  Amazingly, the sn for the one I ordered in Oct with the broken neck was 461.....the replacement that came from the GC on Tenn was sn 141.  I hope anyone who has had an issue has as happy an ending as I have.....going to go play some more

Bonaburst #18, JB Epi #191, MusicMan Darklord, LP Cherryburst Traditional Plus, Gigliotti GT, Takamine, Takamine 12 string, Martin D-28 & GPCPA1, Fender Amer STD Strat, Fender Custom Shop Gold Metalflake, Custom "OSU" Wagner Tele, Gibson SG Limited Govt Model, Jim Kelly Combo

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Luckily Tom it wasn't a guitar. Just a box toys and treats for the dogs. I passed on the Epi JBLP I had on order due to what I've heard. I have a order in for the next batch.

After my first one came in busted, and after I sent it back, I ordered two more. Hoping one would make in one peice. Well, one did, the other had a crack in the neck up by the headstock. Sad thing is I was gonna send one to California to someone who was having a hard time getting one. Well , that didn't work. In all I recieved three of these guitars, and had to return two for broken necks. I am exited to have one finally, but Epi has some  serious QC issues to deal with.

Congrats Artisan,I'm 2 for 2 on busted ones so far.

My goodness, what kind of impact could seperate the strings from the machine heads. Don't give up, it's frustrating, but these guitars are worth the hassle. I got mine set up, and man I catch myself looking at the headstock, swearing the thing ought to say Gibson.

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Well I have an appointment with the best Luthier in western NY that I know of....
Pete has done set-ups on all my guitars and only plays what he himself builds....
He's taking a look at my twisted headstock and also....... to me the treble side of the bridge looks drilled in the wrong place....Way too close to the pick-up and I can't set the intonation..
I'll let him decided to either KEEP it or BACK it goes to AMS

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

this has to be a joke.
how many broken necks is this?
anyone keeping track?
I thank the good lord mine is quite excellent. . . .
Joe must be pulling his hair out. . .

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Mine isn't broken....The headstock has a twist and they raised the nut on the bass side to compensate...
I think the first twisted head stock I seen was a guy that goes by WSG...
He might have been in the Gibson/Epiphone forum....
He had a few pictures posted.....Mine has the same twist with the higher nut on the bass side.....
BUT.....truthfully the hardware on this guitar Epi used is terrific !!!
I'm going to hate sending it back to AMS if my guitar guru can't see a fix.....

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

I might be wrong but the assumption that these broken necks are from impact damage must surely be wrong? Having so many must be due to manufacturing failure, that headstock is not connected to that neck right surely?

Nobody likes a SA, so sorry for this but I just would not buy a guitar without seeing and playing it, which is probably why I will never have a Joe signature model as there are too many people who will order up-front without playing the thing. And that goes for Gibson as well as Epiphone (and Fender), - there appears to be be too much variance in quality.

I think that the Epi range was a toe in the water testing market reaction before launching a £1000 Gibson which has now happened. But again i have read too many message-board posts about varying Gibson quality control to pay before play. Sorry to be glass half empty on this.

I do see your point, but then you got to look at it from all side's to. I live so far off the beaten path ,that we are a long, long ways from the nearest guitar center. So enter the online shopping. It's sorry that the shippers are such slobs in the way of handling packages. But thats the nature of the beast I guess.Got one on order again, maybe this time. cool

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

I'm VERY nervous about getting mine.
When it finally arrives, those moments before I flip the case open are going to be just awful.
The way my luck runs, I'll be joining the line for a replacement. sad

What does all this mean for the future of these guitars?
Are the breakages due to ham-fisted delivery guys?  If so, then that's kind of the best case situation.
If there is some manufacturing fault, are those lucky to get a good one going to have to treat it extra carefully in case the neck snaps like a twig?

I think a statement from Epi is in order to reassure those with broken ones that replacements are on their way (extra production if needed), and those with good ones that the breakages aren't due to a manufacturing fault that may bite you in the arse sometime in the future.
I'd be interested to know if these breakages have caused some comment back at Epiphone already. Surely, the number seen so far can't be common can it?

What The Fuzz ?!

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Is there serial numbers on these? Time for a JB Epi Registry?

- Nic from Detroit... posting on JB's Forum since 6-2-2006
Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Yep, and include the busted ones on there too.
