Topic: Possible New Speakers - Any thoughts / Experience

I'm looking to replace my Vintage 1970's greenbacks in a closed back 2x12 with something that doesn't colour the sound. Amp is a Trainwreck Express clone and it works very well for me. However the speaker break up does mean that the eq need more tweaking than I'd like as the volume is changed (eg. home  practice / gigging or even 1st set / 2nd set as venue's fill up)

I'd planned to purchase Eminence Delta Pro 12's as the EVM12L's are no longer available. However I've just had these recomended as a lighter alternative due to the Neo magnet http://www.faitalpro.com/products/sched … =101050110

Does anyone have any experience of either they could share please?

I never heard of those speakers.
I did some internet searching on the neo Faitalpro speakers you linked to... and all the reviews have them as being a bass speaker.  hmm

Meanwhile, I'm peeping EVM12Ls on ebay.
They still have EVM12L Classics for sale in production and the Black Label EVM12-L.

I haven't used these speakers, but it really seems like all speaker choices are a crap-shoot so you try and go with the best info. you have on them.

Man, Glen Kuykendall uses original Greenies in his Marshall 4x12 w/ his real Trainwreck Express and it's possibly one of the greatest rock tones I've ever heard.  Youtube Glen and his real 'Wreck and you'll hear what I'm talking about.  Most guys I know try and seek out those old Celestions to run with the Wreck.  I've played my Dad's Wreck clone through my '81 Marshall JCM800 cab loaded w/ G12-65s and it was heaven!

There's no two ways about it 'Wreck type amps do sound great with the Celestion G12M's. Mine is in very much the same tonal ballpark as Glen's though I tend to run it with a little less gain these days via a 12AY12 (V1), 5751 (V2) and 12AT7 (PI) in the pre amp section (EL34's in the power stage as I hated the sound with 6V6's).

However because of the breakup characteristics of the 20w & 25w Greenbacks they effectively become part of the EQ circuit and it is already a very interactive eq section meaning getting "that tone" dialled in can be difficult.

My amp has been further complicated by the addition of both London Power Scaling and an fx loop that I use with a Dumbleator clone effects buffer for delay and reverb. The amp works for me and it does give me exactly what I need in terms of tone.

However I'd prefer to remove a layer of complication to setting up by not having the speakers colour the tone.

Whilst I'm not seeking to replicate Joe's tone I appreciate his approach with Speakers, Auralex Gramma and Plexi Baffle to ease setup at various venue's and control stage volume etc.

I bought my EV12L from USA Speaker. You can give them a try. Call them direct it you want the 16 ohm

I'm UK based so those would cost a fortune to import (price + shipping + duty import duty on that amount + 20% VAT) ..as far as I'm aware there are no EVM dealers in the UK.

I live Australia and just bought a new EVM12L Classic 8 from the U.S for a EVM TL806 that I built.
It took 2 weeks to arrive and even with shipping it was 1/2 price of buying one here (If you can find one).

Other speakers I can also suggest is Warehouse Guitar Speakers also in the U.S., they do British & American clones.
I bought 4 ET-65's (Celestion G12-65 clones) for my 4x12 cab, really like the sound, don't let their price fool you they are high quality speakers.

The Weber Michigan Ceramics are a fairly good representation of what the EV12L's do. I tried them out and hope to get a 212 with them in it soon.
