Topic: Budda Wah

Hey everyone-

Anyone have have any experience with the Budda Wah? Im in the market for a new one, and it's down to a fulltone Clyde, standard Vox, or the Budda. I really like the demo's I've heard of the Budda and think that's the one I want, but I'd like to hear what everyone has to say.

Thanks!
Logan

Re: Budda Wah

you cannot go wrong with any of those.  have played and owned all, but kept the clyde deluxe for live because of the volume boost option which is nice.  but for recording, it's the vox i go to.

Re: Budda Wah

Last time I looked (maybe 4 or 5 years ago) the inside of a Buddha was exactly the same as a Crybaby, just the casing was different.

never give up, never slow down
never grow old, never ever die young

no way

Re: Budda Wah

i've recently brought the vox and i absolutely love it. way better than my old standard crybaby. plus it's gotta be one of the greatest looking wahs just for the chrome top.

Fender 60's Strat>Fulltone OCD V4>>TC Electronics Polytune>Orange Dual Terror>Torres 2x10 Cab(with a vintage 30 and a greenback)

Re: Budda Wah

I've got one of the original Bud-Wahs, and a dual-tubed Budda Phatman overdrive, too.  The Bud-wah seems very vocal-like to me, very expressive.  I also have a Morley Bad Horsie II for when I'm in that kinda mood. smile

Re: Budda Wah

I had a Fulltone Clyde and a Keeley Cry Baby and sold them both. I settled on a stock Vox wah and like it better than the other two higher priced ones.

Re: Budda Wah

I have a VOX V847 which is nice, just looking for something a little different... I'm also in collection mode so im still torn on what to get haha

Way. The amp tech in our guitar shop had opened one up out of curiosity.

I have had a crybaby, teese rmc3, and now have the Budda Bud wah (for the last 4 or 5 years). None sound the same, and I like the Bud wah the best...the post below addresses this topic. Jeff Bober started Budda amps, and GCB95 is a cry baby...

Gear Page post addressing this topic:
Well, the GCB95 does not have a Fasel inductor. They never have. Yes, it's black but it's not a Fasel. Likewise, the Budda Bud-wah also does not have a Fasel inductor. It is a custom inductor designed by Jeff Bober that is inspired by the vintage Fasel...but it's not a Fasel. Unless you have schematics of both circuits or you measured the components it would be difficult to determine if they are "identical" circuits even though the board layouts are similar (For that matter, the Vox V848 has a board layout almost identical to the Budda and they sound very different). Not saying they're not the same; just saying you can't be sure without schematics or component measuring.

That said, I actually do believe there's a pretty good chance it at least started as a GCB95 with a custom inductor, true-bypass and sturdier contruction because Jeff used to install his custom inductors (and DPDT switch) into...you guessed...GCB95 Crybaby wahs as a modification service before the Bud-Wah was ever in production. Those were the first "Budda" wahs. Steve Vai used to use one in the mid-90's. Of course, that doesn't mean that some component tweaking didn't occur when doing the mods or developing the actual Budda wah.

One thing's certain: GBC95's and Bud-Wahs do NOT sound identical. That's what really matters.

Re: Budda Wah

I didn't say they sounded the same - I said they looked the same  smile  I'd be interested to know if Buddha still use the same casing as the Crybaby?? Maybe the one we looked at was an early model.

Re: Budda Wah

Between the VOX, crybaby, and Morley... I liked the VOX the best. The VOX is in my main rig, but I still kept the Morley though because it has a distortion thing on the so it's like two pedals in one. Nice for bringing to open mics.

Re: Budda Wah

I bought one two years ago and it was defect after half a day of playing. The overall qualitly wasn't better than with the normal Dunlop Crybaby. Further to that the pedal range was very tiny and uncomfortable in my eyes.

I wen with a VOX V847, which was 1/3 of the price, but sounds better and feels better.
