Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

Yep...died this morning aged 58.  I guess the Gary bashers will have to find someone else.  Mentored by his hero Peter Green, Moore was a member (twice) of legendary Thin Lizzy.  I know I'll miss him.

Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

Shocking and very, very sad news.  This comes close to the sad feelings that came with news of SRV's death.

Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

a few of us will have fond memories of Gary's intimate gig at Charlotte Street Blues Bar in London last year - here is one of Pete the Cabby's great vids from that memorable night..........

Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

I'm staggered to read this just this moment on the BBc website. I was watching his tribute gig dvd for Phil Lynott yesterday evening and marvelled all over again at his skill.

Yes he could be some times awkward towards fans, but that should never overshadow his amazing ability. I have so many of his recordings and have seen him many times and just thought he would go on for a good bit yet.

He never did as much in the States as he could or probably should. American audiences have missed one of the very best guitarists to walk the earth. He could do any genre and could outplay the experts of that genre. Rock, blues, jazz, fusion, progressive. I loved him as a blues guitarist best no matter what the purists would say.

I've been one that has sometimes dissed his attitude in the past but I am gutted at his passing. Music's loss - a real bitter blow.

Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

Every day I have the blues.  Terrible today to wake up with the blues.  I still have the blues and that's ok.  But devastating to live them hard when someone dies. sad  Sadly, and I mean no disrespect or pun at all, but in all serious tones, I am most saddened that I never saw Gary Moore perform live.  I even almost had the chance if I had just got to England a few days earlier than the trip over for Joe's RAH.  I could've even joined my friend Tom (RICjunkie) for his show....*sigh*

I have to say it was the first thought.  Secrecy? Holiday? Hotel room is where you die? Suicide?

This really hurts.

My sympathies to his loved ones.  And to Tripod.  I know you Tripod will keep his music going on forever.

yeah, my first thought/fear.  No disrespect intended.  I have thought for 30 years +/- that if you have Irish and/or Native American blood...we probably shouldn't drink much (any) alcohol... please God, not intentional...nah.

I agree with The RiverCat.  It does hurt.  Damn sure does. y lo siento Tripod tambien.

Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

Cause is to be established at a PM in Malaga, so they say.

I thought he had done with all the bad stuff. He left TL twice due to the 'indulging' that was going on, saying he had done all that kind of stuff at an earlier age and no longer saw, or understood, the point. For him, the music WAS the point.

Wasn't aware that he had any alchohol related problems. I remember reading an interview with him where he mentioned seeing Rory G, shortly before his passing, in a London Hotel drinking Bailey's by the pint. The impression that I got was that it had shocked him a fair bit, and I don't believe GM was one to squander his considerable talent in that way.

For sure, I would be saddened for him, if it was found that something like that was responsible.

In recent years he has appeared a little overweight, but nothing of any significance. I didn't catch him last year but saw him in '09. Classic Gary. Too loud, of course, but an absolute mastery of the instrument. I really don't believe there was a note, tone, sound or phrase that he couldn't access on a guitar and use to it's best effect.

Much will be made of his playing prowess but it should not be overlooked how much good material he wrote, even in the blues genre, where one treads a well worn path.

Yes Tripod. If your reading this stuff - my sincere condolences to you. His flame burned here brightest with you and I know you will be feeling this huge loss more than any of us.

Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

Autopsy will reveal he had a massive heart attack. Gary and girlfriend checked in, restaurant was closed so GM room service ordered a hamburger and champagne. After dining, he and girly went for a walk on the beach after which he had two brandy's and chatted with fans at the bar. He went to sleep and died.

Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

Those details by the way are quoted from a Spanish news agency.... sad  Hotel staff found GM on his back, naked except for shorts so of course the autopsy should reveal if he perhaps asphyxiated a la John Bonham....

Re: Damn, Gary Moore has passed away

Condolences to Tripod and to all other big GM fans. I can't honestly say that I was ever a big fan and I only saw him perform once - unfortunately, that one time was at Bospop 2007, immediately following on from the Bonagobsmacking I experienced during my entirely unexpected Bonabaptism. I was still trying to lift my jaw off the ground and understand what had just happened to me when GM started playing.

Certainly one of the great players of our time and yet another member of 'my' generation to have departed.  sad

RIP Iron Man
