Topic: Bob Seger

Any Bob Seger fans out there?
I do not own any of his music but would
like to get a couple of CD's.
Can anybody recommend something to
get me started.

I think you should start with "Live Bullet" originally released in the late 70s.

He's got 2 greatest hits compilations out, the first is more of his well known songs, the second is a collection of less well known tracks, and imo is better than the first one. He's also releasing a compilation of rarities fairly soon too. However, any live albums are great as he's a great live performer.

I own Live Bullet, Beautiful Loser, Night Moves, and his newest one, Face The Promise. And I love them all. I would recommend Live Bullet and Night Moves, because Bullet is a great representation of him live and Night Moves contains the title track, The Fire Down Below, Rock And Roll Never Forgets, and Mainstreet, which were some of his biggest hits.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Beautiful Loser and Night Moves, because I don't think I ever actually owned those, but yeah they've both got lots of good songs, many of which appear on Live Bullet.  I just remember loving EVERY song on Against the Wind (not to mention the pretty album cover, haha).  And based on the track list, the live album Nine Tonight looks good too, but I don't think I've ever heard it.

I've kinda gotten away from Bob Seger over the years... not sure why really... I still like him and everything, he wrote some great songs... reminds me of my teenage years......

One of my all time favourites is Turn The Page, how many other people have felt exactly the same way I wonder? Pretty much all of em at some point I'd guess lol. Bob is one of the most underrated musicians ever I think, in the UK at least, which is a great shame. Everyone knows Night Moves and We've Got Tonight, but, and this might shock some people, Bob actually made more than 2 songs...........................

That's Bob hitting the road again in the States late March and will continue until April & May as he doesn't play consecutive nights. His management are only releasing details 1 or 2 at a time which is a bugger for trying to plan from the UK. Tickets are about $75 which is in keeping with last time. How's that for a bargain and a v sign to all the money grabbers out there?

I flew across the pond to see him in Chicago in November 2006 and I can honestly say it was one of the best gigs I have ever seen. A perfect match of classics and new songs and the Silver Bullet Band were on fire. The heavy snow following my arrival was a major bummer and mirrors how it as I type. I then went to his Kansas City gig and I have never been so cold in my life - a scary taxi ride (cos of the driver being a rip off merchant) back to the hotel only to find the bar shut early!!

Anyway, thinking of going back again as at nearly 66 this could be his last tour.

Absolutely in agreement! Bob Seger at his 10 year overnight success pinnacle! It's utterly fantastic, a total rock & roll Detroit Rock City blast! But I also definitely recommend Night Moves as a sublime, subtle, yet still hard rocking after dinner mint or chaser if you prefer. Both the career turning the page and turning point.  I have expressed a few times on this forum over the years I witnessed this tour, and in San Diego, where THREE raucous encores were not enough-the place went Berserk!!! Bob and the Silver Bullet Band were only opening for Black Sabbath, of all bands, and he ceded out of respect.  It took Ozzie a LONG time to get any kind of a rise out of the crowd that night, even though Tony Iommi was magnificent in his playing.
An historic tour, an historic album, and a Classic Rock 5 star recommendation from me.
Any young kids out there, listening to this will have consequences on your music listening habits! Don't miss out on what your friends miss out on.

Agreed!  Although once when The Divine Mstia and I were listening to "Turn the Page," she looked at me and said something along the lines of it being the truth?
