Topic: Greg Allman, Low Country Blues

I bit on the deal with Blues Review mag and just got the first issue with the cd sampler. Nice witn a great assortment of cuts from the likes of JST, Ollie Brown, Laurie Morvan and others. They throw in a Low Country Blues pre release from Greg Allman which is due next week.
Still a few available, not a bad deal. http://bluesrevue.com/gregg-allman-2/

Re: Greg Allman, Low Country Blues

Hey Rick,

I've been receiving Blues Review for a while now and the CD sampler comes out every 2 or 3 issues I think. I've found some pretty good music through it. The newest release, which is it's 20th Anniversary issue, has a couple of good articles in it about Tommy Castro and Coco Montoya. Always look forward to receiving my copy. smile

Yeah, I really like it. the first cut: Living in a Man's World by Laurie Morvan just cooks! I am going to check out more of her stuff. Like I said, the mag bi monthly and a sampler every other issue PLUS the new Allman CD is a fair deal for the price.
edit: Just got an em that my copy of the Allman release was shipped today.  big_smile

Just got an email that he will perform in Bonn Solar Stage Germany July the 12th and surprise : there is a chance he will do a show with Derek Trucks  and Susan Tudeschi in Bonn the 10th.

Hope it isn't a joke, let you know  when I hear more.

Re: Greg Allman, Low Country Blues

My, that was fast. Greg Allman's new CD, Low Country Blues, was in my mailbox today. This is his first solo release in 14 years and it was worth the wait. The liner notes liken this to a journey down a river with tributaries feeding from the various strings of the Blues. Greg pays homage to many of the greats from the past. Low Country refers to his homeland of South Georgia. There is a lot of Muddy Waters to be found here. Some cuts will put you in a smoky juke in a seedy section of town. Others ramble up to Chicago, down to Memphis, across to Nashville and on down the flow to the Delta. It closes with my favorite, a collaborative original arrangement of Rolling Stone by Allman, T Bone Burnett and Mac Rebennack which harks back to the slave chants that were the origins of the genre. Primarily an acoustic album with support from many of Greg's friends, there is some great electric guitar work by Doyle Bramhall II.  I think this will earn a treasured place in anyone's collection. This was my impression from the first listen. I'm going to roll it again, and again, and again! cool

edit: this is going right to my top 10 list for next December. The wife agrees, we've run it non stop all evening. Not a bad cut to be found! She's rocking around the house right now to I Believe I'll Go Back Home.  big_smile
For those who are looking for electric guitar driven riffs, look elsewhere, this is Roots Blues!

I got lucky and received the CD as a prerelease perq. for the subscription.  smile This CD was worth the price alone! There is a nice booklet with lyrics, production notes and photos too included with the CD. (the lyrics are not too accurate, maybe they are as originally transcribed or something.)

Re: Greg Allman, Low Country Blues

Greg Allman posted this link on facebook.  You can listen to the album in it's entirety.   Some of it I really love.  Some of it is a little too country for me.  My favorite is the cover "Little By Little".  Overall I like it a lot and will buy it.   smile

Had it tuned in, but the Sandman caught up with me before Greg came on. I faded some time during Kelsey Grammer, go figure.

Re: Greg Allman, Low Country Blues

Just downloaded it this week.  Hadn't heard anything about it.  I was just browsing new albums and saw it, saw some listener reviews of it, saw the description and took a chance.

I've been playing it every day on my MP3 player.  Really like it!
