Steelers had their hands full TODAY.  Lots of embarrassing play, always away from or getting let slide by the zebras. Downright dirty play! Looked more like a nefarious crude crew of Raider styled infamy.  The team is too good for that.  Not making excuses for the Jets, I liked all the teams. Probably pull for the Pack after what I saw today, but if Pittsburgh can play decent, fair and square and superior at the Super Bowl, major congratulations will be in order.  For the record, every face-to-face conversation I had about football picked the Steelers & Packers to win. Like I had said and it played out pretty well, all were contenders for a change. Great Championship Games and the champs advance! Hopefully the game will be all game and no f'ing hype.

Rocket, the thing about the Steelers is, they sometimes do it ugly, they sometimes do it tough, they sometimes do it in spite of themselves, but more than any other team over the years, they usually win. It's all about the results, baby!

And while no team is immune from scandals (Big Ben?), over time the Steelers organization has operated with class and smarts. I won't say they're my favorite team, but I do respect them... and if the Packers are smart, they will too!

For myself, my money's on the Steelers. I think the real Super Bowl was played a couple of weeks ago when the Steelers beat the Ravens.

More than any other team over the years? Wrong-O! Bears, Packers, Giants (and others) have more wins over the years.  IF you mean post season, Dallas Cowboys have more.  If you mean Super Bowl only, not including pre Super Bowl NFL Championships, OK, no argument possible there.  But I will plug my San Francisco 49ers team, the only team in the League not formed pre-WWII and still in top 10 all time wins.  And they have not lost a Super Bowl.  And up there for number of Super Bowl wins until the Steelers jumped ahead.  When they make it there they take it there!
I might remind you youngsters that the Pittsburgh Steelers were the worst (toss a coin for the Saints) team in the NFL for years before the merger and sending them to the AFC.  They might've been relegated to the embarrassing fate the Saints (until their recent change of luck) if not for that.  But they have rebuilt from those days of course, and have become iconic and grandly historic and famous.  To the point people jump the bandwagon.  The best TEAM will win the Super Bowl this year, not the best organization (arguments about which organization is better are moot).  I wish both good luck, cheer for both, avoid halftime balderdash and keep fingers crossed what may be the last NFL game of 2011 is a doozy!

As a one-time 49er fan, a fan before most people jumped on the band wagon when the 49er's started winning, I'll give them their propers for winning the Super Bowls.  But they were a losing team for a long time before Bill Walsh got there.  I know, I was there.  Not many 49er's fans know anything before Bill Walsh.  Also even with Bill Walsh at the helm, the 49ers have always played in one of the worst if not the worst divisions.  And before the realignment, it was only 4 teams in their division.  I'll give credit to the Steelers for playing in a very competitive division which makes it harder to get to the playoffs in the first place.

Re: Steelers going to the Super bowl for #7

If you know who Leo Nomellini is......No 49er bandwagon jumper here, RC! They were good 70-72, made the playoffs, a few bad calls from the Super Bowl 2 of those. "Next year" as they say......

No horse, dog, or commodities in this race.  No money down but as a prognosticator, I offer the Packers by 7 for better bettors....Uprising de fences!

GO STEELERS!!!!!

Re: Steelers going to the Super bowl for #7

Every Red Blooded American should jump in line to support the Green Bay Packers! The Packers defeated theChicago Bears thus earning them the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. By doing so, they saved the Hard-Working, Red Blooded, Taxpaying Americans literally several million dollars of tax money. How you say? Simple... we were told that if the Chicago Bears had won that President Obama (and probably his family)would be attending the Super Bowl to cheer on his hometown team. Since the Bears lost...the President won't be attending. The money saved from not using Air Force 1, the limousines, all the additional security, and let's not forget  Michelle Obama's entourage, is literally several million dollars!  Therefore every American should cheer on the Green Bay Packers at the Super Bowl to show them our gratitude.

Re: Steelers going to the Super bowl for #7

I must say Rick, that is one of the best reasons to cheer for the Packers I've heard so far! wink Yes, we all need to be fiscally responsible in these times and so, the Packers did there duty by forcing the Pres to stay at home. lol

Rocket, the Packers by 7? Honestly, this one on paper is just too close to call. If it was any other team other than the Steelers, I'd feel confident in a Packer victory. But these guys have proven time and again they know how to win in a big game. Actually, both teams have the same winning percentage in the Supper Bowl, even though Pittsburgh has more victories. The Steelers have been in 8 Super Bowls and won 6 and the Packers have been in 4 and won 3. That's 75% either way you look at it. Still, I'm pulling 110% for my team to pull out a victory. It will be like old times when I was a little boy. Most of the family members will be gathering at my nephew's home and screaming and yelling their fool heads off rooting on our team. If you listen closely starting about 5:30 PM (6:30 EST) you just might be able to hear us. wink

You know, we just need Joe to confirm he's rooting for the Packers. That would definitely put us over the top! cool Joe?

GO PACKERS!!

Re: Steelers going to the Super bowl for #7

Rick,
Thanks for the LAUGH!!  lol  big_smile  lol Soooooooo true. Back in November I sat at a roadblock around the airport while our pres. was drumming up votes for his party.  His speech was 3 minutes long at Temple University, but to get him in and out of Philly quickly for his next pit stop was surely costly.  I always think, I wish I knew how much that cost!! (of course, all politicians waste money...)

GO PACKERS!!!  I think this is going to be a really competitive game, two really superb teams!

I'm really glad the Packers made it but... my wife was born in Pittsburgh, is a diehard fan and I've got to live with her.
So... if for nothing other than self preservation purposes, I'll be pulling for the Steelers.

Re: Steelers going to the Super bowl for #7

A wise choice Mike! Peace on the homefront is paramount. I think the difference in the outcome will come down to one play by either special teams or maybe a super defensive effort. Too close to call. I'm looking forward to an exciting match with lots of scoring so the betting boards will have good action.  smile Off to purchase my pork butts for that Carolina pulled pork! Licking my chops already! Our clan gathering will be about 20 or so and we'll be making some noise too.

Re: Steelers going to the Super bowl for #7

As someone who doesn't follow American Football too closely, i heard on the radio this morning, if the game is low scoring.... it will favour the Steelers. Is that about right ?

Simply put, no.  Any opinion or guess is as good as any another. Not caring if I am glaringly wrong in the end, I predict a low scoring game with the Packers coming out on top by a touchdown and extra point(s). 17-10.

Half time is when you grab some more pulled pork and a fresh beer, then step outside to enjoy the predicted 75 degree day. Packers 23 Steelers 21.
