Wow this is a super old thread.  For an update I did try the Jazz III but hated the tear drop size.  On electric I play the Jazz III XL because it feels like a normal pick but works like a Jazz III, but lately played a lot of acoustic stuff so I've worked hard on finger picking.  Its carried over to electric as well but I still like playing with a Jazz III XL black picks because the red didn't have the striking power the black has, and you can make an amp drive a bit harder in the front the harder you note something.

The Jazz IIIs have some grip to them helrazr.  I've used them for years, and while they do have a little bit of grab from the imprint of the words, they do slip once in a while, if you're not careful.

I like the Jazz III's, but if I'm looking to pick quicker I'll try a 1mm Dunlop Big Stubby.  It's smoother surface slides off the strings easier.

I tried Jazz III3 but had an issue with them slipping too. I have now been stock piling eric johnson signature Jazz IIIs as they have a nice smooth feel but not slippy.

I agree with fuzzblues...I couldn't stand the normal jazz III's slippery texture, so I started buying the EJ ones. They are excellent and they dont slip at all

Finally bought a pack of these Eric Johnson Jazz III's at GC ..on company time of course.  I actually thought they had a good grip to them but even so, the pic seems to want to work it's way toward the palm of my hand out of my fingers.  I'm giving them a fair shot, but so far I'm not a fan!  I have been using the Dunlop Derlin 1.5's, but I do like the sharper point on the J3's.  I seem to go through and round off the points on the Derlins quick.  -Seth

I take a knife and put a bunch of slashes in mine for grip. the teeth on a butter knife, just grind on it for a bit and you'll get some good grip lines.

Has anyone tried the Eric Johnson Jazz III's compared to the JB Jazz II's sold on the Joe Store?  Just curious as to the physical differences.  I have read that the JB Jazz III's have Joe's name on them, and that the Eric Johnson Jazz III's have a less smooth surface texture, both of which supposedly help prevent slipping in your hand.  Is this correct? 

Also, how about the Max-Grip Jazz IIIs, anybody tried those?
