Topic: Carvin Jones ??

Hi All

Anyone seen Carvin Jones ?
He's at a local venue this month and I think I'll go to the gig.

Think I saw a U Tube link to him playing two guitars at once.
Can he play the blues with feeling as well as tricks like this ??

Re: Carvin Jones ??

A little bit late but here's a reply finally Ges.

Saw Carvin at the Limelight in Crewe a couple of weeks ago (the week after my Bonabaptism to be exact, so it was an uphill battle straight away). Where do I start!?!

The guy can play, make no mistake, but he just came out all guns blazing doing all these Hendrix-esque tricks straight away. Bearing in mind, there were less than 50 people in the place at the time (gig was on a quiet night), "The Carvinator" jumps off the stage, starts going into the "crowd" (use of aforementioned word in a loose sense), pulling tricks, giving hi-fives etc.....

For me it was all a bit contrived, false and a bit forced. You didn't get the chance to warm to him from the get go...it was all up in ya face so to speak which may have been a bit better in a fuller venue.

Also, as well as having no material of his own, the guy couldn't sing for toffee, was almost painful listening to him attempt "All along the watchtower". Oh,AAANNNNNDDDD...during the mid session interval he got a table out in front of the stage, sat down by himself and tried to sell his CD's and DVD's. He must have sat there for what seemed like an eternity before someone got up and bought something. Felt a little bit sorry for him to be honest. He shouldn't have been doing that himself....especially in the middle of a gig. He ended up just playing with his phone whilst the few people there wondered what was going on, shame!! Maybe it's just all about the money for him. I don't know?

Now it wasn't all negative, he did pull it back a bit in the second half with some good covers, and the crowd did eventually warm to him, he was entertaining Some of the things he did with his beat up old strat were incredible, things neither me or my Dad had ever seen.

In my personal opinion though, he should get someone else to do the singing, and maybe show the crowd he can really play before bringing out the tricks later on. Was a shame to see a talented guitarist with such a small showing because he really can play. I just think he might be somewhat of a "diva" when he's not on stage.

Would love to hear if anyone else has seen him, and what their opinions of him were!?! Sorry for rambling, was just one of those strange gigs that couldn't be summed up in a couple of sentences for me!!

Your right about his singing...forget it...but he's freaky with a guitar...love the video of him using a left handed strat (he's right handed)...I'd check him out if he ever came here...looks like he's staying local for awhile

Re: Carvin Jones ??

Saw him at eh Pokey Hole a couple of years ago, good player(if a little toomuch like Hendrix/SRV). His voice was rough .. then I heard his CD.... which was worse. Great live show ... He sold loads of CD's and DVDs that night.

I've not made a point of seeing him again since. It was a one off for me sadly.
