Maybe a group of us should get together and pool our money?  We could take turns "owning" it.  Now that would be cool.  (The current "owner" would have to personally deliver it to the next one - that could make for some interesting trips!).  Dream on as they say.

That’s a very cool idea, Sandy. cool It would be great if it could work.

I'm pleased everyone liked the photos. It was a shame Goldie was almost up against the wall and I couldn't easily photograph the back, but just to see her was very special for me. As much as I am a fan of EC, his guitars on display paled into insignificance by comparison.

I gotta say that  looking at Goldie sitting there with a price tag makes me a bit short of breath.. That guitar traveled so many miles with me.  A foot note about it.. When I was 19,  I was at rock bottom.  I lost my record deal, I had a horrible squeaky voice.  I tried several different styles of music and fell flat on my arse.  It was the most crossroads time of my life.  I actually gave up the guitar.. I sold all my guitars.. 10 in all to my dad and at vintage guitar shows and gave up for 6 months.. But, the only guitar I kept was..... you guessed it..  Goldie.  Its is with mixed emotions and a pure heart that this guitar goes to a good home..

Hi Joe, I saw you were online and hoped you'd respond. I can fully understand you will have very mixed emotions about this guitar. I'm sure it means a huge amount to you and the only consolation is that whoever it goes to, the purchase price will benefit a lot of people through the Crossroads Charity.

Thanks for the short resumé. We're so glad you stuck to the music you love as it's brought so many of us back to the blues and found a lot of new young fans who perhaps wouldn't have experienced real music otherwise.

$32,460. Heck, new signature models with sig. are going for 25! I have a feeling my guess is low too. This is an iconic guitar.

You once told me you weren't sentimental about your guitars. That story though reveals just a bit. It also illustrates the point that the description doesn't do it justice. It is so much more than the guitar on Rockpalast. That is why I hope a long time fan or somebody that at least knows that about the guitar takes her home.

Re: Is this the "Goldie" Auction?

What a wonderful story, Joe!!  smile

I hope Goldie finds a great home, where she continues to be heard & loved.  I think Goldie's paperwork should include a DVD with you playing "I KNOW WHERE I BELONG".

This version is superb and would be very inspirational, while representing an important timeline in Goldie's life!!!

Re: Is this the "Goldie" Auction?

He had said that more than once, Jim.  It IS so much more.  Rockpalast it was nearing retirement. I still fondly remember one show where Joe was strolling to the backstage area pre show (well before the start, and he was going to be the opener, not headliner) THROUGH the seating area of this club (still sparsely populated) all nonchalant, and I informed my guest (first time to see Joe), whom I had been delivering an oral thesis on the portending future of music that would be apparent after just a few notes on this lovely gold sparkled Strat Joe was sure to use......and I said excitedly "There's Joe now"! He nonchalantly turned BACK towards us and came to the tiny bar table and thanked us for coming and hoped we liked his performance.  I had seen Joe a few times, but he didn't know me personally, excepting the already running in gear previous forum, but I didn't have the chance or wherewithal to introduce ourselves at that point. October 2002.  Tom Dowd had just passed away.  Joe played If Heartaches Were Nickels with extra emotion, as he dedicated it in tribute to Tom's memory and legacy and friendship.  There's more, but it is all I can take right now...

Patty, this isn't walmart or the price is right! Add a penny and roll that 2 UP to a 3!
p.s. I forgot to mention Joe had Goldie in hand when he walked up to us. I admired and maybe I dreamt it, butmit might have been the first time I touched or held her... hmm

Re: Is this the "Goldie" Auction?

Joe - I think you should bid on her (one of us would be glad to be your proxy!)   big_smile   If that doesn't happen I truly hope she goes to someone who really appreciates her.

My guess at the final bid?  $32004.

I went thru my pictures looking for some of Goldie in action, and though I saw Joe use her several times I only have a couple of pictures.  They are in this set:

First guitar I ever saw Joe play.  Excuse me while I go join Patty in a sob-fest.

yeah Jim & Joe its the old adage, you only miss it when its gone, she certainly had a huge part in forming Joe's early sound and live capture and would like to know what songs from You and Me backwards did Goldie  feature on, tunes like Blues Deluxe and You Upset Me Baby plus most of ANDY and some of HTCT surely that is a must know for any potential buyer and for Goldies own historic reasons too  cool

Great photo's Phil and seems kind of sad to see her standing there idle and quiet, but she has done her travelling and gave us all so much listening pleasure.

reckon around $35,000

If everybody in this forum sent $10 to a "fund" we could collectively outbid anybody for the guitar, then give it to Joe.  Now that would be fun.   cool
