Topic: Anyone try Tusq?

Just wondered if anybody on here is into replacing Nuts (acoustic or electric) saddles and bridge pins?  My acoustic has Tusq bridge pins and I'm getting ready to upgrade the saddle and nut as well.  The pins alone made a huge difference in pressence and volume for my Yamaha.  Sure is fun to be inspired again.

Re: Anyone try Tusq?

I have Tusq on two of my acoustic guitars. I think that it is a great material. Much like bone in my opinion.

Re: Anyone try Tusq?

Haven't heard/tried Tusq. I recently changed the bridge and saddles on my Am. Deluxe with a vintage Callaham upgrade kit. It did definitely affect the sound of the guitar, especially the sustain. Highly recommended!

Keep rocking!

Re: Anyone try Tusq?

Callaham makes great stuff.  Most of the Tusq products are Nuts, and acoustic saddles.  They do make the string saver product but I think if you going electric Callaham was the only way to go if you got the money for it.

Re: Anyone try Tusq?

Yep I recently had a broken nut on my Strat replaced with a Tusq nut. I was blown away by the difference in tone! That reminds me I need to do that to my other guitars...

Gits: '03 Gibson Historic R7 Goldtop, '06 Gibson R8 Plaintop, MIJ '62 RI Strat,  and others...
Amps: '99 Marshall 1987x Plexi RI, 1969 Fender Super Reverb

Re: Anyone try Tusq?

I was going to order Tusq saddles since I can't seem to find Nylon saddles for the nashville tunematic bridge on my LP Traditional.  Are their any similarities between tusq and nylon saddles??  I figured a simple mod under 30 dollars would be worth a shot, but I hate to spend the money if they are going to end up sounding like the metal saddles already on the guitar.  -S

Re: Anyone try Tusq?

I replaced the nut on my LP with a tusq and it's one of the best things I've done. Makes the tone articulate, and extremely warm.

Metal ones will sound brighter in my opinion. The tusq ones warm it up a little.

Anyone got a link to buy these I have a project guitar that needs a new nut.

Re: Anyone try Tusq?

Thanks guys.  I would like to add a little warmth.  I read a thread somewhere and the person was saying they didn't change the tone at all so I was concerned it would be pointless, and 30 bucks down the tubes.  I think I'll give it a go.  -Seth
