Topic: Do we have any boxers here?

Just wondering, as I'm starting to take up boxing myself. Have you guys noticed any difference  in dexterity? (assuming you're using proper hand wraps and 16 oz gloves while training)

Re: Do we have any boxers here?

I boxed a bit in the military service. (always with 16 oz. and headgear) 16 oz. won't hurt your hands but sparring with lighter ones will. I never noticed any dexterity loss after the soreness wore off. Start off with easy workouts on the bags until your tendons become loosened up.

It's nice to hear somebody say that...any forums I've looked at say things like "YeAh BoxiNg WilL F--k uP yOur HandS FoR lYfe"

So, thank you for actual input. How did you like boxing?

I liked the excercise. I was on a ship where you don't get much chance to do much. I liked sparring but fighting 3 rounders in the smokers wasn't so cool. 175 put me at the bottom of light heavy fighting 190 guys if you know what I mean.  sad  Have fun and keep that left up by your chin!  wink

Re: Do we have any boxers here?

Never boxed, but had over 5 years of martial arts training which included lots of sparring and also breaking boards, which happened every 3 to 6 months during testing for advancement. That's more than 20 years ago but I've had no problems with my hands...dexterity or otherwise.
I assume it's the same with boxing...you hit something with bad technique and you can Eff up your hands.

I've been mostly working on the technique with shadowboxing etc. until I get paid and can afford a heavy bag and stand. I love everything about it so far.

I was also involved in martial arts for probably about 5 years...there's just something about using nothing but your fists that I find more interesting than kicks, grapples, etc.

Just poking a little fun, we boxed in high school as part of alternate spring football practice when the weather was real nasty. Our QB and FB weighed more than any offensive lineman, and slow me got my face beat in often. yikes
not any fun.
