Topic: Bonnie Raitt
Susan and I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Bonnie Raitt in concert last night at Pala Casino in northern San Diego County. The venue depressed me but I'm not going to focus on the negative here.
How does a left brain individual like me describe the joy in my heart listening to an icon in the industry like Bonnie sing and play. Words come to mind like Grace, Class, Style and unbelevable Talent. She is such a great Lady and even after 40 years of performing, she was sincerely appreciative of the applause she so duly deserved for her performance. We truly enjoyed the show.
Early on in the performance she played songs like "Walking Blues" from her 1971 debut album, "Too Long at the Fair" from her 1972 Give It Up release and "Thing Called Love" from 1989's Nick of Time. It brought a smile to my face just wondering how this song is going to sound on Dust Bowl. Most of the band leaves the stage and it's just her and Hutch Hutchinson (her bass player) and she picks up an acoustic, sits on a stool, the lights get lowered and she begins to play Angel from Montgomery. I'm not an emotional kind of guy, but that nearly brought tears to my eyes. The quality of her voice, even at 61 years of age, is indescribable. There wasn't a soul moving, talking or doing anything else during this tune. She had the entire house absolutely mesmerized.
The band returns and she does the duet "Good Man, Good Woman" with her keyboard player, and of course "Lets Give Them Something to Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me."
She mentioned that she is working on a new album but didn't say when it was scheduled for release.
I'd go she her show again whenever she's in the same part of the world I am and I recommend you do as well.
