Queensland suffers it's worst ever devastation by rain deluge over months. Death toll set to rise. The next 24 hours will see the city of Brisbane - Australias third biggest city under 8 mtrs (24 ft) of water. My hopes and prayers are with my son, his wife, my two grandchildren and thousands of Australians in grave danger.
I'm with you Geoff. I've been following the reports. Hope they are headed for high ground.

Thanks to Geoff for starting this thread. I have a sister and her hubby who live in Brisbane, or just outside on the coast. The high tides are about to hit, but she tells me their ok.... so far!

I was just watching on the news, God Bless all your families and friends that they are safe and out of harm's way, I also hope our dear Rick Melick's family & friends are safe, too. Unbelievable devastation....

Skyped Martin this morning. He and his family are above the floods so they and their home is safe. More than can be said for the thousands that have lost everything. No insurance - uninsurable because of the history of flooding in 1974. Such devastation. More to come in the form of cyclones in the coming weeks. the weather patterns are so predictable with this La Nina event. Our planned trip to visit in February may have to be delayed, but on a plus point may now coincide with Joe's visit to Brisbane - how spooky is that! But then again it may be much later in the year. Having seen the horific scenes on TV our hearts go out to those poor souls who have to come through this ordeal! Thanks so much for everyones good wishes, it means lots!
I am most impressed by the Aussie resolve in the face of catastrophe. Instead of blaming government inaction, they all pitch in and help each other. Hopes and prayers for the ones involved.

I am glad to hear your loved ones are OK. I can't recall ever hearing about this kind of devastation in Australia and such a large area!! Now it seems flooding has also moved to Rio in Brazil.
2010 apparently was the hottest and the wettest on record. I hope there is continued research on climate issues...
Mass floods and wild bush fires are NOTHING new to Aussies....few people remember the devastating floods in NSW in the early 70s, but EYE do!!
WE coped with these calamities before...we will cope with them again:):)

Yes, I know....they are SCARY to say the least.....but you should have seen the yachts sailing on top of my primary school in Oak Flats NSW when Lake Illawarra flooded in '73.....MASSIVE!!!
Unfortunately, I don't have any pix to follow up the floods of that period.

Flooding in Brazil also and it has taken many lives. Take no part of a good life for granted. When things go bad...they could always be worse I say. Good resolve and hanging on to all everywhere.
