Re: bass players

Eric Czar, Formaly of the Joe Bonamassa Band.... Doesen't get great pub, but well deserves it....

Re: bass players

A guy from here in Nashville you may have already heard of...Victor Wooten.

You're right though....not a lot of pub for the low and mighty. My fav bass players were always Leon Wilkerson of Skynyrd and Kenny Gradney from Little Feat. Let's face it....most of the bass you hear on top 40 pop radio today isn't even played on a bass....sad.

"why isn't the number "11" pronounced "onety one"???....S. Wright.

Re: bass players

Alphonso Johnson currently with the Gregg Rolie Band is a personal favorite. I guess you would have to call Charlie Hunter 1/2 bass 1/2 guitar, but a tremendous talent.

Re: bass players

Lot of great names already mentioned. Tony Levin (King Crimson and many others) is probably my favorite current bass player. The best I've ever heard was the late, great Jaco Pastorious. I think he was in a league all his own.

Re: bass players

Glenn Hughes, period. For those of you who don't know who he is, he replaced Roger Glover in Deep Purple in 1974. The albums Burn, Stormbringer, and Come Taste the Band are all fine examples of his work. If you want what I consider to be the Rock album of the year for 2006, get his latest Music For The Devine. For me, he is the guy in that genre.
In the R&B(Motown Old School) genre, I would call out the late James Jamerson.
In Jazz I would go with Ray Brown.
In Blues Tommy Shannon is hard to beat.
Believe me, the list goes on and on in each of these, but these are the guys that come to mind right now. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on the upcoming tour.
By the way, Mark Epstein is a great player and I very much enjoyed playing with him. Carmine Rojas is amazing and really pushes me as a player, I am interested to see what his influence does to me and to Joe as well. Take Care,

Bogie

Re: bass players

Mary and Carl, I just loved those video clips.  Great finds. Makes me think of Psychobilly.

Geob,  Eric Czar did a song called "Bass Waltz"  that I absolutely just loved.  I hope he will make it available in the near future.

I'll add a couple.  Verdine White with Earth Wind and Fire.  I nicknamed him the energizer bunny cause he just keeps going and going.  Very happy to say I'll get to see him in June.

The other is the great and zany Les Claypool from Primus.

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol
