I have 2 Hardwire (CM-2) Tube OD pedals. I really think it's a nice sounding pedal. In the Modded mode, it has a fair amount of distortion to it, or can be smooth and mild in classic mode. Very round tone, but can be brash if you have the gain and or volume ALL the way up. Otherwise, it's smooth. I also like being able to adjust the high and low, as opposed to just a single "tone" knob found on most other overdrives.
I think so many Overdrive boxes sound about the same, but this is a nice pedal. I also have the hardwire delay ( a little harsh), reverb which is very nice, and the chorus, also great.

Can you give me a sample settings of your od?
They get very good reviews all over. The Hardwire series in general are great sounding and built like tanks.
I had the Valve Distortion and end up returning it. It just didn't sound like it did in the store. I run a Fender Twin Reverb '65 Reissue and they just didn't get along. I am going the boutique route with my pedalboard, and just got a Wampler Paisley Drive I really love for the Joe Walsh/Eagles tones I need for my tribute (Stone Eagles) and just a good overdrive in general. For "mass produced" pedals I usually stick to MXR/Dunlop. I'm not a BOSS or a Digitech fan. That's just me though. YMMV.

I usually have my amp set with a small amount of breakup , NOT completely clean. OD: I set Low and High knobs pretty similar, about a 1/4 of the way each, and the Gain a little less than 3/4 with the Level at half or unity volume. It's gonna depend on how your amp is set too to begin with. I prefer to keep my EQ low like Eric Johnson mid around half and the bass and treb sparingly, no presence. It's really meant to work in conjunction with YOUR amp, so it will further the original amp tone. If you're looking for more of a straight up distortion pedal I'd suggest the Hardwire Valve Distortion. -Seth

The paisley drive sounds really good on youtube videos. I prefer a bit warmer sound, is it capable of such? -Seth

I have the Hardwire Reverb Pedal (RV-7) and love it. Highly recommended and built like a tank.

Definitely. It is a versatile overdrive. I have a couple demos of my own on YouTube playing Joe Walsh stuff (I play his parts in an Eagles tribute band).
