Topic: What wah wah ????

I'm on the Market for a boutique wah I have had many wahs  cry babys  are good but the build quality isn't so great they don't last too long ! I'm after something different something a little warmer more voicing! Am looking at the new budda wah it looks great and sounds very different  has anyone used or know anything about them ??      Thanks steve

Re: What wah wah ????

What's your price range? For about 100 you can get a Classic Crybaby or a Vox Wah. I think the Budda is 170 or so. If you're willing to pay 200+ the Fulltone Clyde is probably the finest Wah out there.

Re: What wah wah ????

I had the Fulltone Clyde Standard wah and I had a Keeley modded Cry Baby wah.  I sold them both. I recently bought a stock Vox wah and I love it.  I much prefer the Vox over the other two I had.  It just has the right wah tone and a good sweep.

Re: What wah wah ????

I posted a reply to a similar topic a few months back about the BBE wah.  I don't know how "boutique" you're looking, but the activation switch on that particular wah was nice, no doubt whether it is on or off.  Nothing worse than stepping back and the thing is still on...  One of the BCC videos it looks like it happened to Joe.  It has a broad or narrow sweep depending on how you set the knob on the side.  You can even do it with your foot while standing.  Just a suggestion.  I'm not a big wah guy, but it's one of those pedals you have to have.  -Seth

I'd suggest rmc at then top end or the full tone Clyde- both lovely creamy detailed wash. Also, look at the Bradshaw/mxr wah- I use this cos it's true bypass, has two voicings (vox or cryb) and best of all, a line drver cum boost. If you're in the us they're a snip - more expensive in Europe though- I highly recommend them

Re: What wah wah ????

I'd totally recommend an RMC. I've been eying the Joe Walsh signature RMC for my board in my Eagles tribute.

If you can't afford one, the next best thing is probably a Fulltone Clyde. But from what I hear, I like the RMC much more than the Fulltone. I've never been a big Fulltone fan in general, so YMMV and I might just be biased.  big_smile I'm sure there are nice YouTube demos of both.

Good luck in your wah search! I'm sure whatever you find will be a great improvement! smile

Re: What wah wah ????

Dude check out the Jerry Cantrell Cry Baby wah. I am a wah junkie and have owned/tried them all. Buddahs, Vox, Fulltones, et al. It has a dark/bright knob on the side to fine tune the wah to your liking. The thing is so smooth and vocal and howls like nothing I have heard.

Plus it's finished in anitique copper which will look awesome beside the JB Fuzz I will be adding in the future  wink .

Hey man! I'm new here but I build custom wahs and have sold a few on the Rig Talk forum to great reviews.I use great components and hand build each one including the circuit boards.I can make you what you want in a wah based on your description.I've done a lot of research on what it takes to get the warmth and depth in the sweep of the wahs and it has payed off.Best part of it is they are a super reasonable price.I don't want to spam the forum because I love Joe and his music so if you want to talk, send me a message.

Re: What wah wah ????

Steve,

Check out Area 51 Tube Audio Designs, I put one of their vintage Italian Wah kits in an old Cry Baby GCB-95 and it ROCKS!

It's went from being a less than impressive tone sucker to the best Wah I've ever owned! It's got it all...growl, quack and singing top end. True bypass so there's no loss when it's off...unless that's what you're looking for tongue

The best part is I put the kit in myself in about 40 minutes. cool  And if you go with their drop in kit it's even easier.

Re: What wah wah ????

Acually I had 2 dunlop wah pedals; Jimi Hendrix wah (first series introduced not the newer ones) and a standard cry baby I bought used off of ebay.  Neither pedal died on me.  The Jimi pedal I bought when I was still living at home with mom and dad, they had a short hair dog at the time (boxer bull dog) and it shed everywhere.  I got dog hair all in the gears and never cleaned it.  I had it for 9 years before I sold it on ebay still in good working condition.  Back when I was starting out it was not uncommon for me to play 3 to 5 hours daily and I'm sure a good part of that was rocking that wah wah.  I sold the pedal for a Morley Geogre Lench scream dragon wah wah because I like that it would turn on as soon as I put my foot on it.  I sold that one months later because the pedal wouldn't stay on unless I kept my foot on it.  I hated that so I sold it and bought a used cry baby.  I hated it because it sounded so bright and life less to me.  It had a silicon circuit on it, where my Jimi Hendrix pedal had something called a Fassel circuit... It makes all the diference in Gods green earth to me when it comes to wah tones.  I think all the vox pedals have that in them and also the higher end Donlop wahs have them.  But if your not buying a Jim Dunlop pedal for fear it will break I can personally say I never broke one or have one die on me.

Re: What wah wah ????

i've gone thru a bunch of them and what I havn't my buddy has including some fairly expensive stuff.......for my money the good ole basic first version of the morley bad horsie performs and sounds as about as good or better than any of them.....and you should be able to pick one up used pretty cheap.

Re: What wah wah ????

I just purchased a Vox Big Bad Wah (Satch)
