Topic: Dan Auerbach

I really can't get enough of this guys work - known mainly for his Black Keys involvement as singer guitarist, his solo album "Keep it Hid" is a brilliant effort, bluesy with superb guitar riffs. Dan experiments with guitar sounds to find that gutsy, earthy, dirty blues sound that works so well with his voice. Seriously, check it out some samples on itunes.

Re: Dan Auerbach

Agreed...!!
"Keep It Hid" is fantastic...

I would also say that "Brothers" is the best Black Keys album since "Rubber Factory"...

just my opinion...

"My Caravan...! Has gone and departed...!"

Re: Dan Auerbach

My 19 year old son turned me on to the Black Keys and we were watching 2 of the DVD's he has over his break from college....I'm hooked! I love Dan's voice, their whole sound.  I know I like the recent "Brothers" and I don't have a handle on the whole catalog, but I thought they were from the UK, but Dan is from Ohio.  Still uncovering them...  I think the Black Keys music is on 1 or 2 tv commercials or its someone singing to sound like them, anyone know?

The Black Keys have done quite a few movie tracks too. Their music is kinda unique - instantly recognisable as them, if you know what I mean. Something that so many artists lack. Inovative too.

Joe, if you ain't had a listen to them, take a listen to "Brothers" by the Black Keys and "Keep it Hid" from Dan.

Re: Dan Auerbach

The Black Keys are awesome.... Its very raw and unpolished but there is genius there.  Its all in the delivery...  Very good record to check is Brothers...

Re: Dan Auerbach

You're absolutely spot on there Joe. I've seen them a couple of times now, once at a sold out Academy 1 in Manchester (You know - the big room LOL) and an equally sold out Liverpool Academy (you've sold that place out too Joe) Each time the demographic was young male and female, who really dug the "attitude" of the raw blues that Dan and Patrick present.

Specially for Joe - here's some info on his gear!

Re: Dan Auerbach

I see a lot of love for Brothers, but for me Attack & Release is their artistic high point thus far. Incredible album.

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster

Re: Dan Auerbach

I saw the show they recorded in Portland..."Live at the Crystal Ballroom" and several times prior....They come up here quite a bit.....Even talked to Dan on the phone once....circumstances too stange to delve into....at any rate...this guy just keeps getting better and better.....He and Jack White have really been responsible for an alternative garage blues revival ! "Brothers" is the Keys hitting stride...perfect in almost every way..

Re: Dan Auerbach

Agreed! Black Keys..one of my favorites. Attack and Release is my favorite album. Brother's is slowly growing on me.  I just saw them at the Aragon in Chicago New Years Day and they killed it. Sold out crowd of yuppies- they're main stream now and all the more power to them. The yuppies we're going crazy for that unpolished, raw, intense sound...I was right there with them.

There is hope for music. It doesn't have to be perfect to be good.

Re: Dan Auerbach

To answer my own question about the TV commercials/shows...

I was reading the December issue of Rolling Stone at the dentist office Monday. (the one with John Lennon on the cover which was sold out when I tried to buy it)  My very nice dentist gave me the issue.

The Black Keys have been nominated for 6 Grammys and were placed 2nd on Rollings Stones Albums of the Year List. The TV coverage: commercials for Cadillac, Zales jewelry and the show House.

The drummer Carney is quoted as saying they had an underdog mentality, but not anymore.  smile
