Topic: What's Under the Tree?

For those of you who might be expecting a visit from Santa....what do you think he will leave under the tree for you?

Y'all have been good haven't you?  wink

I'm hoping for some Joe Bonamassa vinyl so I can play it on our 1959 Silvertone Stereo. And a T-shirt so I can represent JB wherever I go!

I would love a bottle of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and a private jet so we would be able to follow Joe wherever he plays but we need to win the lottery for that to happen.

Re: What's Under the Tree?

Well, sad as it may sound, I normally buy my own stuff to avoid getting anything I don't want!

But this year I haven't done that and at the moment there's nothing under the tree!

OK, my girlfriend did a very trad German advent calender and so far I have had a gift everyday in December, so maybe there's nothing left for the big day, which is on the 24th here.

As it is only us and my daughter together this year there won't be too much. The best gift I can have from her this year will be if she can actually get her flight out from the UK today, as it has been so dumb with the weather at UK airports these last days. She was supposed to be here on Sunday but it got cancelled.

So I'll take her with no wrapping!

If I had a free choice today on other stuff it would be

1. a new job
2. car workshop repair bill under 500 Euros
3. a years supply of mature cheddar cheese
4. as 3 but with Indian food
5. Nothing made in China

Guess number 5 narrows it down a little, but I would be easier on the Chinese if they invaded North Korea and reunified it with the South!  cool

Re: What's Under the Tree?

This is what I call a thread that goes in a funny direction.  big_smile

When it comes to presents my husband tells me I scorned him about 26 years ago when I honestly told him I didn't like a piece a jewelry he bought for me. ( I should have faked liking it)  Its moved from a sore subject to something we laugh about now, but it always leaves him an out for not shopping for jewelry.  We both enjoy CD's and book presents and I like a few different perfumes, I'm into keeping things simple.

hansamike-I'm laughing at your #5.  Good luck with that, likely impossible.  A friend of mine, who is really, really smart told me about maybe 8 years ago,  WE have to watch out for China.  (she is top management human resources). Don't want to get into politics, but last year we went to this induction ceremony for my college student who was inducted into 3 honor societies as a college junior Physics major. My son wants to get his PHd in Physics and be a college professor and aspires to write a textbook. (I forget on what specific area of Physics) Even with his excellent grades, research etc. the head of the Physics Dept. told me my son has to compete with the Chinese, who have the equivalent of a Masters degree when they apply to American schools for a PHd program and they take the necessary entry test with that knowledge. He will likely only get into a top school if that particular school takes the Chinese out of the equation when judging him. It was very deflating and made me really wonder about some things...  At the same time, when I sit around and talk with my family and friends who all have college students; the students complain about having professors with very strong foreign accents that they can't understand and cannot learn from and the parents complain about the outrageous price we are all paying for it... Go Figure... yikes

If you didn't hear Donald Trump's little spin on your#5, you have to google it. I hope your girlfriend shows up soon.  wink

Merry Christmas everyone!!

That in itself, makes me laugh Angela. big_smile I can't even tell you how much jewelry I've bought for Dawn over the years. She probably could bring out necklaces that I would think are new that I purchased for her years ago. I tried clothing, but it always seemed to make it's way back to the store as a return. I figured jewelry was my "out", because what woman doesn't like jewelry? Well, I guess I'm married to one. Last year I bought her a second pair of diamond earrings as an upgrade from her first set that I bought when we were first married. She's probably worn them only twice all year and told me not to buy her anymore jewelry. What's a guy to do? I did find one perfume that she really likes, but that for sure is not an easy task to pick out for a woman.

I'm trying one more thing this year and it's jewelry again. But this time, it's the earrings and necklace that Elisa made from Aaron Williams' used guitar strings. I figure the "great cause" along with the beauty of the jewelry just might be a winner!! wink

Don't think that there's something special under the tree.
We'll have a relaxed time at home with the family eating self-baked Christmas cookies and stollen and traditional German "Sauerbraten" with a bottle of "Black Print" from Markus Schneider.

If you get your private jet, I hope it's big enough to take some Bonamanics with you to the concerts.
Haha, and if I will hit the lottery jackpot, I would invite some people to a nice little concert.

I haven't been very good this year, but wine is always a good gift. I'd like a case of a really good vintage beerenauslese, we drank a lot of German wines in high school, but not this good. OK I'll settle for a 1.5 liter Woodbridge. There is nothing under the tree, I procrastinate. I gave son a laptop and Bill Simmon's book The Book of Basketball because he is an NBA fan. I bought a new lambskin jacket and a pair of Merrell's. My mother will get another gift card this year, and gave daughter cash. Looking forward to Xmas 2011, no not really. I'm not bah humbug, just hate to shop even for myself. Merry Christmas to you all, hope Santa delivers. Love that guitar Roy!!!

Re: What's Under the Tree?

Not really under the tree, as it were, but since tickets to five Joe shows are a lot more expensive than they used to be our Christmas gifts to each is simply that - tickets to upcoming shows by Joe.

Rory Gallagher's Ghost Blues DVD better be under there - otherwise they'll be an inquest!  smile

Re: What's Under the Tree?

Angela, you are right about this thread going funny. I didn't know that jewelry would be such an issue! lol
Before I got married I told my future husband don't buy me jewelry without me picking out a few things for you to choose from...that way I got exactly what I wanted and he got to surprise me.

Blues Sissi, Let me know how the Black Print is. Also, don't worry the jet will be big enough to take some Bonamaniacs to a couple of concerts....It wouldn't be any fun without y'all cool

Re: What's Under the Tree?

Don't need the damn tree this year I already got my present on Nov. 1st. The Giants won the World Series!!!!!!!!! A gift I waited 45 years for.

Re: What's Under the Tree?

My husband bought me really nice diamond earrings, but I never wore them.  They just didn't look good on me, because they were post style earrings and whoever pierced my ears, did not do them even.  So, one earring sits fine and the other sorta' hangs & dips down and accentuates they are uneven.  This time, I didn't say I didn't like them, just didn't wear them.  He got so annoyed, he gave them to my daughter. I told him, she was going to lose them and she did.  I only wear earrings that dangle down, you can't notice the holes are uneven.   wink

jdawg~we were talking baseball with all the buzz with the Phillies, there are no guarantees stacking a team this way or that way.  The Giants win was really exciting, the way it all came together, new players that joined the club, how long you all waited, the Padres opening the door of opportunity...Keep enjoying it! Merry Christmas!

Re: What's Under the Tree?

Santa is giving us some more snow.
Must be about 25 cm this night and it's still snowing and a cold wind is blowing.
I'm thinking about a "Glühwein" party this afternoon with a good wine. Why not???

I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Re: What's Under the Tree?

Well...  My oldest daughter Megan knows how big a fan I am of Joe's music so she wanted to do something cool for me.

She e-mailed the folks at J&R and asked if she could get a signed setlist as she wanted to frame it and give it to me.

Alexis replied that her request would be almost impossibe and suggested instead that she would try to get me into a meet & greet at an upcomming show.

So....  Susan and I will be at the shows in Anaheim, San Diego and Las Vegas.  Hopefully at one of the shows, we get a chance to say hello and get a picture or two and maybe get something signed.

Very, very cool gesture on Megan's part and I'm really appreciative of the m&g idea from Alexis.
