Topic: The Old Grinch was at the Post Office this past Saturday…

Just a little story…so I go to the Menomonee Falls post office this past Saturday to mail a couple of packages that contain used guitar strings for “StringsforaCURE”. The parking lot is jammed and I fear a very long wait in line is in order. However, it’s Saturday and I’m off, so I don’t have to be anywhere. I then realize the envelopes already had postage on them, so I get out of line and go over to the outgoing mail slot. There stands a middle aged woman with two very small and cute children each with a bundle of mail. She’s holding the children up to the slot and they are slipping several cards in at a time. I’m actually enjoying watching these little ones mail their cards.

As I‘m standing behind her, in steps Old Grinch who says, “Come on lady, do you have to do that now? You’re holding everyone up!” To which the lady responds nicely, “Well Sir, the slot is only so big and I’d have to do it myself anyway.” He continues to grumble and right about then I almost let it fly, but I figure with my luck this Old Grinch might have a heart attack and die if I said anything, so I keep quiet.

Just then I realize there is another slot for parcel mail and since these are small parcels, I step over to that slot and place my mail in it. As I turn and head towards the door of the Post Office, I hear Old Grinch again and this time he shouts rather loudly, “Listen lady, I’m 80 years old, so don’t give me any crap!!”  I just about stop and I’m ready to turn around when I think to myself no, it’s just not worth it.

My hope is that everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year. And remember, let’s try everyday to treat others as we would want to be treated. wink

Watch & learn Children.  This is how we be kind to rude 80 year old grumps.  We allow him to go first.  Go ahead, sir.  you're obviously in a hurry.  Late for work, are you?  Oh, no job, you say.  Soiled your trousers, then?  please do go ahead.

Oh that's not it?  Badly need a drink, then?  Oh dear, Please go ahead right away.  What's that?  meds haven't kicked in yet?  unable to produce children?  I'm so sorry.  AND

Thank you so much for providing me with the opportunity to teach my children that your obnoxious behavior is no reflection on them or me.  And we must always be kind and show

Excellant advice Dr. Jones...Always a teaching moment with the kids.

It was very hard for me not to Michael and normally, I go way out of my way to help someone who is elderly as life can be very hard for them too. However, what I really wanted to ask him was why, being 80 years old, did he wait until Saturday to go to the Post Office? I figure he would have had ample time during the week when most people are at work. Although, I'm sure the resulting conversation from that question would proably have led to something bad.

I think BJJ is right, I should have praised the woman for taking her children to the Post Office and showing them how to mail their cards. After all, they were probably sending them to grandma and grandpa, aunts and uncles and even to Santa himself. wink

Big Dave,

You mean all I have to do to get you and your lovely bride to come visit us in the great north is to "click and ship" and you two will appear? Are you sure I don't have to wear ruby red Wisconsin Badger slippers, click them together and say, "There's no place like the Rose Bowl, there's no place like the Rose Bowl", to get you here? Damn, why didn't you tell me? wink  lol

My mailman is not as strapping of a man as you are Shreddy, he rides around in a funny little truck all day. Still he's an OK guy. Gee, that reminds me, time to pick up a bottle of Baileys for the mail box, it's Christmas!
