Topic: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

So I got a Fulltone OCD in a trade, and so far, much like the Soulbender, this pedal has not stopped impressing me.  It really is super touch sensitive and I haven't even tried it at 18 Volts yet.  Not sure if it will replace my HAO rust driver on my pedal board, but it really is a great tone tool.

Re: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

Cool! I am awaiting a Fulltone OCD (v4) that I bought from a member at TGP to arrive.  Hopefully it will be here before Christmas.  I'd like to compare it against my Analogman KoT and T-Rex MudHoney to see what it sounds like.

Oh, I'll also A/B it against my old MIJ Boss DS-1...  lol

Re: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

Just wait till you try it at 18v! The difference is amazing!
I don't have the OCD but have the Fulldrive 2...does the same thing with the 9/18v choice. If you can, definitely run it at 18v!

I have a OCD and love it but have always wondered about the 9V/18V thing - what difference does 18V make to the sound and character of the pedal?

Re: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

You get a bit more body, more headroom too. Cleans up nicer. Not that the pedal is fizzy at all but yet, the 18v somehow makes it less fizzy haha.
Proguitarshop has a video on youtube of the OCD with the 9v/18v switch. He has it running at 18 then pulls the plug so the battery runs at 9.

Re: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

Great score, something I've always wanted to try.
I've just got hold of the danelectro cool cat drive version 1. Apparently it's a clone of the fulltone OCD (not sure which version).

Re: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

Yeah I have been lazy and not gone to the studio to try it with my main rig yet.  I am worried that I am going to start stacking OCD's once I do.

I had to go to the PGS website to get the hi-fi audio in order to hear the difference; old youtube videos and their compression mask the real difference.  Yeah I will definitely be trying 18!

Re: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

WOOOOOOEEEEEE DOGGY!  So i finally got off my lazy arse and trotted down to the studio to plug the OCD into my live rig.  I am pretty impressed and depressed.  Impressed with the tone, and depressed that it took me so long, avoiding the OCD bandwagon.  Had I succumbed to it when it first came out in production, like i should have, it would have saved me a few hundred dollars in finding a good drive pedal.  Running it in HP mode and at 18V.  One of the most touch sensitive pedals i have played, and the only one that responds well to boosts before it on the signal chain.  I can get great lead tones from it by either driving it with my HBE Germania, or by boosting its own signal with my Sonic Boom.  I guess if I had one word to describe it, it would be... masculine?  Really gave the bridge position in my Firebirds some of the ummmmph they naturally miss.

I just "upgraded" to 18V............. HOLY MOLY....... WHAT A CHANGE. The easiest, cheapest and most effective sound upgrade I've ever done in 30 years. (Cost around $2 for the Y lead)  smile

Re: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

Yeah, I just rewired my pedal board last Friday, and for the first time i am running my boost before the pedal... Also the Tweak Fuzz in combination with the OCD is awesome...  So now my signal is going wah>fuzz>HBE Germania>OCD>time based effects.

Re: New pedal day: Fulltone OCD

I've also been playing with my newly received OCD 1.4.

I must say that I am finding the single notes to be superb and responsive through this pedal, but power chords seem to be a bit muddy and lost.

I am A/B-ing it against my Analogman King of Tone, and the KoT is far better at power chords - I can still hear each note ring out through the beautiful crunch.  However single notes sound a bit weaker through the KoT.

Still running it at 9V at present.  I'll have to dig out a splitter cable and run it at 18V to see how it goes...
