Topic: Session stories..

Hey Fellow Gearheads..
So today I learned a valuable lesson.... I blew up some gear during our final session of our new album.   I used smaller amps... I started with my brand new and very great tweed twin "keef" amp.  Blew that up in short order.  I then focused on two amps that sounded amazing.. Again it was combo and 2x12 day... I ended up using a 1990 Sovtek Mig -50 and a 1964 Blackface concert...  Once the Bona-Byrd tuned to a hybrid low B tuning come out the original speakers in the concert decided it was time for a early retirement.  So all in the session was great... I used it until it flamed out.  I justify the loss because the session was so inspiring.. That you cant by or repair.. Anywho.. We start tomorrow at 10:30am ( thank you Gavin and Curtis) to put back together the burnt out wreckage..

Re: Session stories..

.... all I can say is that I can't wait for the new album  big_smile  and I can't wait to hear what those amps sound like!

Re: Session stories..

Did you blow the stuff with blues?
I could call something like "BLUES!!!" but I think I rather call

ROCK N ROLL!!!  wink

Ah, right. Can't wait to hear some new material.
By the way, is Slow Train a "new Material" - Song? (I wasn't on the board here for a while)

Lookin' back in front of me

Re: Session stories..

Well I hope you got it all down and taped.

Might make a great instrumental piece - "Push Play - to Destruction" - so real you can smell the burning. Bikers and racers do it with rubber so wheres the difference?

I think for an amp it's an honourable way to go, sort of MIA. Blackface, probably pretty much black everything now  lol

Playing guitar doesn't come cheap...especially with Joe Bonamassive credit card bill around...

Re: Session stories..

Apparently when Satriani was recording 'Surfing with the Alien', his wah pedal started to die, giving him those really unusual tones towards the end of that song.  It packed it in right as he finished the take.  He kept that take and could never, ever replicate that sound again in following performances.

Love to hear the clips of Joe's speakers and tubes in their death throes...  yikes

Re: Session stories..

Joe that must be one helluva heavy duty overdrive pedal you use! No wonder you prefer 100W heads. If your discarding the 57 twin, send it my way.

Thanks for sharing.

Stay Safe

Re: Session stories..

My own session story last night:

JAMMED on my new 100 watt tube head through 2x12 EVM12L Black Label speakers.... totally held up!
LOVED the tone.... it's a keeper! Much better tone than the Celestion V30...
