Re: How about a little Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo to get you going today?

Hey, look what the cat dragged in, my buddy Aaron! cool  Good having you here man, feel free to give us your insight on anything in the music industry. You'll find this forum a very warm place with great people who possess an unbelievable amount of knowledge, some of it is even worth remembering! lol

No really, lots of fine guitar players frequent these pages along with people like Angela, Tres, Rick, Curby, Jacque, Musiclova and Rev. Paul who have been following the music scene since you were knee high to a grasshopper.

Glad you're here my friend!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

It looks like I found a great place to talk music and gear! Two of my favorite things:)

Curby- I do love "No Time For Love" that one was written by our drummer, he's a mad man. Live, on that song he plays a 5 minute drum solo that always leaves me smiling.

Personally, my favorite tune off that CD is Hypnotize- it's more rock then blues but that groove and song idea came to me in a dream. It was the first and only time that's ever happened. I ended up waking from that dream at 3am, jumped out of bed and went straight to my guitar. It's cool you have the CD! I'm looking forward to our new CD, it's a lot more blues then our first CD and I've fallen in love with my cigar box guitar. Lots of slide coming....and hopefully a few idols will join me on the CD.

ahsmith33- I'm glad Roy pointed me here, this is a really cool forum and I'll be sure to check back. As with everyone else here i'm a huge JB fan. I saw him 10 years go in Madison, WI. I think I had just turned 15. There was probably 17 people in the bar but it is still one of my favorite shows i've ever seen. Joe kept talking about his beloved Yankee's and he kept teasing the audience he wanted to have his set done before the end of the 8th inning so he could watch the 9th. Sure enough he ended his set in the 8th! I think "A New Day Yesterday" had just come out. I still have my signed copy at home. JB is a rare talent and above that he works his **** off to get where he's at. He's an idol in a lot of ways...musically and business wise.

But back to gear! I LOVE my Thinline. Another artist I love is Tab Benoit and he plays a Thinline. I met him a while back and he let me play his and I fell in love. Before then I had been a Strat player but loved that beefy sound of a hollow body thinline. My number one is a bit of a freak. It's a Crafted in Japan body (95') but then I slapped in the ol original pickups from an old one I found that was beat to hell. It took a bit of retro fitting but worked out great. Someday I'll get the original one back up and running, but my fear is always that some one will rip it off. I run it through a 66' Super Reverb ala old Tab with a Tube Screamer. I'm all midrange:) What kind of gear are you running?

That square guitar is a cigar box guitar. The good people from Daddy Mojo gave it to me. I love that thing, it's so nasty sounding, I can't get enough of it:) I've really fell in love with it. The website is daddy-mojo.com worth a visit anytime.

Thanks again! I'd be honored to answer any question y'all might have, as long as y'all answer some of mine from time to time!

peace,
Aaron

Many thanks for sharing all that Aaron. To be honest, I don't play all that much anymore, my son plays the Tele more than I do and he has other guitars as well. I never played professionally or in any kind of band, and now my arthritic fingers are another deterrant. I just love that Tele and look for anybody that plays one. He has a variety of mid-level pedals and runs different combos through a Line 6 Bogner 212 spider valve. Oh yeah, it's loud but not a lot of character. Take care and merry Christmas to you and yours.

hey girls (and more importantly guys), I visited Aaron's site and noticed he has women's underwear for sale with their great band logo on the backside. Maybe another item to add in Joe's store? I'm being serious, have never seen this item of clothing on another musician's site.

hmmm, they do look comfortable Roy, but XXL in a hiphugger may be a lot to ask. Yeah Rick, that visual is troubling and hysterical all at once. I've been laughing for the last 15 minutes.

Now just a moment here Jacque, I seem to remember you and another woman complimenting me on my "nice a**" a couple of weeks ago when I was shaking it on the dance floor in Two Rivers. As a matter of fact, that lady friend of yours with the black hair (forget her name), cracked me on it while I was shaking it at the two of you! Now, you're saying I need a triple X large simply to cover it. Just goes to show, you can't believe what you read on the internet! tongue

And Rick, have you been peeking again? Besides, last time it was a Saturday night and in Wisconsin men are allowed to wear spiked heels that night! wink Ah yes Wisconsin, "Where Men are Men and the Sheep are nervous!" lol

@Aaron: Nice to see you posting here. Welcome to the forum. You really make that cigar box guitar howl - wow. Makes me wanna have one. I hope you'll come to Germany one day...

@Roy: I said it on Davy Knowles' forum and I'll say it here: Your videos are always a pleasure to watch. Thanks for posting them. smile

Rick, thanks for making me realize why Roys face always seemed so familiar to me! He's the guy from the Rocky Horror Picture Show - "It's just a jump to left..."  lol  wink

OK, now that I've learned more about Wisconsin than I ever wanted to, I think I'll never go there again... wink

WOW! Now I feel right at home, thank you Roy for that image!

Haha, those under wear we bought as a joke a while back and they've been selling like hot cakes. It's always nice when someone says "I have your name on my back side" at a show:)

I have a question for y'all if you don't mind?

As an artist one of the hardest things to do is get the word out that we are coming to your town. Facebook, myspace, twitter, email lists, newspapers, ads. We do all we can to notify our fans that we are coming to town, but it's the hardest thing when we play a show in a town and the very next day we get a few messages/post that say "I wish I knew you were in town, I would've have come to see you!"

How do most of you hear that your favorite bands are coming to town- as a helpful hint for us bands. How do you prefer to be notified of an upcoming show? It's one question I've always wanted to ask! Any suggestions?

thanks!

Re: How about a little Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo to get you going today?

Hey Aaron, do what Joe did. Start a fan based street team. Put up downloadable flyers the fans can print and post. Run an  e.m. when you are coming to the fans in the area so they can get the word out. This part of Joe's forum is where a lot of us and a zillion lurkers get the lowdown on great bands just like yours. Word of mouth from loyal fans is very strong and builds on itself. We post links on the social networks and our friends get a heads up.

Re: How about a little Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo to get you going today?

Actually Rick, that's what I proposed to Aaron a little over a week ago. I'm hoping to retire from old Ma Bell at the end of next year. At that time, I should have enough time on my hands to get their Street Team rolling. I'd like to start it up before that, but to really devote enough time and to do a fair job of it, that's what I'm hoping to do. Joe's Street Team has been a huge influence on his career and other groups should use that as a perfect example of how to operate. cool

By the way, I have another video from a week ago and I wasn't sure of the title until Aaron told me today what it was. This is:

"Me and My Guitar" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6eF5stDGV0

Rusty, You and Miri should come and visit Wisconsin. Where I live there is a very heavy German influence. Actually, the next town north of where I live is called "Germantown". smile

And Aaron hey, a guy can buy just so many T-shirts from you before he looks into making a totally complete coordinated ensemble. big_smile

Re: How about a little Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo to get you going today?

@Aaron: If I want to know when one of my favorite bands come to my vicinity I actually check their website or join their mailing list. I guess that doesn't make me a typical fan... LOL  Sorry, I can't help you with that problem. But if you can get Roy to organize your street team, that's all the help you'll need.  smile

@Roy: The Great Lakes region is right on top of our list of holiday destinations we want to visit. But not because there are many Germans. When we go on vacation we like to see something different. Chicago, the lakes, the National/State Parks, beautiful Menomonee Falls, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, that's what draws us there.
Miri's actually been to Germantown before. But that was years ago, after she ended her one-year-stay as an au-pair in Long Island. We've been to all four corners of the US so far, but I still got to see the Great Lakes. I just hope the Wisconsinians (or is it Wisconsiniacs?) don't take me for a sheep! wink
