Topic: Poor man's Jubilee??

So I'm looking for something that will come close to the sound of Jubilee. I looked at the Ceriatones but I don't feel comfortable shipping an amp from Malaysia. I constantly check Ebay for a Jubilees but they're out of my price range. I think maybe a 1000(US Dollars) is the highest I could go for an amp. If there is anything that can get close to that articulate marshall saturation.

Many Thanks.

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

I am getting close with a JCM 900 Hi Gain Dual Master Volume Mk III head.  This is a very different amp than the JCM 900 Dual Reverb or JCM 900 SLX.  This amp was only made for a couple of years in the early 90's.  It gets much better ratings than the Dual Reverb or SLX.  It does have a ton of gain if you need it and a usable effects loop.  I got it off of Craigslist for $450.  It was in rough shape but I did some cosmetic work and had a tech go through it.  So I now have $525 total in it.  Not bad for a good Marshall head.

I've got the 2550 from Ceriatone.  I wouldn't worry about the shipping.  I have 2 amps from Nik and they both made it with no issues.  The tubes are packed in bubble wrap and placed inside the back cover fo the amp.  The box and chips he uses would allow a tank to run over it with no problems.  And,....the price is right at your budget.  Great amp!

How long did it take you guys to get the ceriatone jubes? I ordered mine on November 8th and I'm still waiting

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

How much is the shipping for the Ceriatones? I would probably buy the finished amp. I'm not much a guitar tech.

All my Ceriatone amps were so well packed, they could have survived a nuclear attack.

6-8 weeks is about right. I guess Nik and his team are probably a bit busier at this time of the year when lots of  boys get new toys for Xmas.

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

I hear that the JCM800 2210 or 2205 model with the same diode clipping circuit as the Jubilee gets pretty close for less $$$.  You could also try to find a black '88 Marshall Jubilee for less than $1500

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

Thank you guys! As always the JB Forum helps in record time and with a quality advice. I'll let you know what I decide after I get some $$$$$$$$ for Christmas. Thank you all, you guys (and maybe gals?) are the best.

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

A second on the Black 88 Jub or one of the Slash models if you don't want to go the Ceritone route. Also the 2210 is a great amp but isn't quite the same as the jub its not as dark and the sound isn't quite as fat but its got a really nice crunch to it. I did a side by side a few years back with one and my 2553.

Fully agree. I have a 2210 (first owner) and it just doesn't get there. I think it has to do with the position the diodes are placed (before or after the preamp? -- I'm not sure).
I experimented for months with my 2210 and an array of pedals. Just never quite got there. I finally gave up, got myself a Ceriatone 2550 and have never looked back since.

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

GREAT NEWS! The guitar store near me just got a Ceriatone 2550 in with an Avatar 2x12 Cab. He's selling it for 1,000 I'm going to trade in my Bugera 6260 and Fender Blues Deluxe and then pay the difference. This was God sent or something because I have no idea how one of these would end up in rural Illinois. Anyway I cannot wait til after Christmas when I get to take that bad boy home. Thank you all again for the help!

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

Bluesbreaker I really liked the 2210 - Acctually the one I AB was the combo a 4210 I believe same amp but combo form. I ran them in to my old 1936 with V30s. both amps sounded great but different. I used the 4210 for a few gigs with the Jub was in the shop and it was a lot of fun. They 4210 is my brother in laws he has two and hasn't used them in years! He likes amp modelers and runs them into a PA. I have begged him to sell me one but no go, but he is a singer so what does he know about tone! HA

Nice find on the Ceritone I hear they are very nice amps.

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

How about the marshall dsl 50/100 watt head?

Seems to me pretty versatile?

Re: Poor man's Jubilee??

I ended up getting a Ceriatone 2550 and an Avatar cab (not sure of the speakers in it but they sound great). It cost a little over a thousand bucks used at the guitar store near. I couldn't believe they got one in days after I made this thread. Anyway I got it for Christmas and sounds amazing. I would post clips but I don't own any sort of recording gear.

Edit: I will post pics of it in the near future.
