EJ's also doing a Guitar Masters Acoustic tour with Andy McKee and Pepinno D'Agostino.

Playing in San diego at 4th & B on Jan 22.  Thinking pretty seriousely about this one

I saw these guys on this tour in October here in Minnesota. I loved it, especially considering the tickets were only $20. It is definitely a pretty laid back show with each playing about a 30 min. solo set and then joining up for 3 or 4 songs. Eric even played a couple songs on the piano - not many people know he's an excellent pianist as well - which I found to be a real treat. All three also did a meet and greet after the show and it was a real pleasure to meet Eric since I've been a fan for a long time.

Eric did mention he had a new CD coming out, but the Live From Austin CD/DVD is one I was unaware of.

Thanks Jay!

Re: Eric Johnson

the Live From Austin 1984 is a treat....I remember being in high school, sitting near the tv with my handheld cassette recorder, recording this very show and being BLOWN AWAY by Eric Johnson...Cliffs Of Dover.

EJ in some respects is a big influence on JB, some of his runs are very EJ'ish....

Remember reading people calling Joe an SRV knock off, never got that, sure he played a couple 12 bar shuffles....so, that makes you a SRV wannabe, not sure countless others got that memo????

but when Joe really starts to open it up...I hear Johnson in his playing -- that is just my ears

I feel exactly the same way.  He may be an influence, but I don't hear SRV in Joe's playing at all.  I do hear a lot of Eric Johnson, though.  I think people make that comment without every listening to Joe's playing.  Or maybe they hear one old shuffle and think that's it.

Well.. The San Diego tickets (for seats that is) are $59 each, plus parking.

Got to think hard about my entertainment dollars.

If it was EJ and his band playing and electric set, I'd be front row.

We'll see.

Re: Eric Johnson

I agree about JB perhaps being more influenced by EJ than SRV.....

I will be seeing Eric when he comes to Dallas at the Granada in Jan. Great venue! But tickets were $50.

Re: Eric Johnson

I concur Mike. All acoustic EJ isn't what I want to see. Especially if it is only a small set. Pass.
