Topic: Hughes & Kettner 25th Anniversary

Just picked one up a couple weeks ago for around $500. Its a closed back 1x12 20W combo amp that sounds absolutely HUGE. I can't say enough about this amp. Gets pretty close to Joe territory, although you really need a second amp to nail it. It is extremely versatile, I went from blues, to twang, to thrash metal in the course of a couple hours. I wish I had a way to record myself so you all could hear it, but i do not. Anyway, I highly suggest this amp. It is basement friendly, but able to crank loud enough to play a club. Hopefully sometime in the near future I will be able to get a second amp to blend.

Hey Logan,

This amp has been on my radar for some time.  Can you give a little more description as far as the cleans and the crunch?  Does it get you anywhere near Fendery cleans with the Marshall plexi crunch?  How does it sound with your 58RI?

I'd love to try a Puretone...

I also hear Joe Perry raving about them.

Barry -

Im sure it wouldnt be difficult to dial in a pretty good plexi tone, but I think that it does more of a silver jubilee thing better. As for cleans, I dunno! I dialed in a good drive tone, and have been scared to change it, for fear of not being able to find it again haha. I'll copy down my settings and do some more experimenting. It sounds fantastic with the R8, but it loves single coils as well. I would check out the stateman too. I has more knobs and buttons so you may be able to dial in an even more specific tone... thats gonna be my next amp, I think.
