AH yes, the winter of 1977!  I should never mention I declared it to gonna be the worst ever as I moved away to San Diego from North Country of New York, 1976!!! I was not popular with family that winter as I called to remind them I was sweating outdoors, and not shoveling snow while they had mountains (much bigger than normal) of it!  wink   Sorry the curse was so strong cussin' cuzzin!!

Jeez, we tell you folks from Florida and California to keep quiet and you take over the thread!  What's up with that?

Stay warm George. Thanks for the like of the photo, dumb luck. That was a knock your eyes off with a stick sunset. We get a lot of gooduns here but that was a stunner. The wife says it gets printed and framed.

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Where I live on the south coast of England we reckon we have a 'micro-climate' which means we normally don't get much in the way of really bad weather,  so I've been feeling a bit smug that we managed to escape the bad weather that's been affecting much of the UK for the past week or so.  Except for today when we woke up to see a thick blanket of snow covering everything.  Could just about find the car.  Yes it looks pretty but it's a pain walking or driving in it.  Anyway, I like wearing jumpers, two pairs of gloves, thick socks and boots.  And it's only early December ...

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Well, here in Northern Germany it has finally arrived proving that the last few days were just a mere flirtation with Winter.

It was -9 or so yesterday which sounds a lot but after reading about people Yukutzk in Russia braving -53 and people working in the coal mine at around -15 to -20 I realise I have nothing to complain about.

We have about 15 centimetres so far but it is steadily falling. I've done my civic duty and cleared the street before our building at 07.00 but that is now already in vain.

I shall be working from home today as the forest is a winter wonderland.

It is a little early for snow, I understand. But I like it! I guess it's because it's a normal thing here. I like all four Seasons. I prefer each act as expected, but the cycle of life is amazing. At least it will get everyone in the mood for Christmas.    Cathy

It's meant to go 'up' to 0 later today, with a proper thaw starting tomorrow. Whopee.  roll

Saturday morning, weather says "dry" while I'm looking at a virtual white-out!  roll

It now seems we're getting up to 2 inches before it's meant to go above 0 later today, but the wind is blowing the snow horizontally past my window so there will be plenty of places with drifts considerably more than a couple of inches. I was going to do my local chores on the bike....no chance of that now, have to dig the car out and brave the uncleared roads. This morning's storm looks heavier to me than anything from last winter.....and I left my warm, hooded sweatshirt at Cathy's....  sad

Have to head to Wisconsin next week.  Monday's forecast for Eau Claire is for a high of 1 deg F.

Perfect weather to walk around with farmers looking for sand deposits.
