Topic: Calling on you lot for a hand.

A pal of mine is looking for a low watt practice amp, all valve. Nothing as high as even 15watt.
He gets his gain from pedals so preferably something that won't break up too quickly.
Any suggestions?

Does your friend have a price range in mind?  Most low watt tube amps (5 watt) will break up fairly early.  Just for practice the Fender Champion 600 is pretty good and cheap. Marshall Class 5 is a good way to go too and won't break up as early as the Fender since it has a larger speaker.  Then of course there are the boutique small watt amps, but those can set you back over $1000.

It really depends on what he's looking to spend.  The beauty of a low watt tube amp though is that it does break up fairly early and you can get that wonderful natural tube overdrive/distortion that all the pedal makers are basically trying to imitate.  For me, nothing beats plugging straight into an amp and being able to dime it and get that overdriven natural tone from the tubes cooking.

I have a cornell plexi 7, very loud 7 watts. I play it clean and use the box of rock with all the dials at noon. I then use either 808 or pork loin for leads, or a hendrix fuzz face when i'm in a fuzzy mood.

Vox AC15 CC2. They are CHEAP on ebay. You can usually find them for around 350-450. Great amps. They sound wonderful, take pedals well, have some character, they are plenty loud but have a master volume so you can turn them down if needed. They are light.

Put a Celestion Blue in it or buy one with a blue in it and you have one of the best low watt amps in my opinion. If he can afford 800 go with a AC15 HW.  They are even more magical.

Located in Scotland.

His price range is around £300 max. Considering it is low watt he's not wanting to spend too much.
I'll suggest the VOX AC15 too though.
