Re: Divided by 13 vs. Fuchs overdrive supreme

I've never tried any of these but that video of Joe and Warren playing at a mule show was enough for me to say WOW.   I personlly thought that was the best Joe sounded, I'm not too hip to layered guitar amp sounds and effects.  It was just a ballsy les paul and a great amp with a great guitarist behind the wheel.  You don't need anything more.

Re: Divided by 13 vs. Fuchs overdrive supreme

Depends on what you are trying to go for.  If you are after the Joe B or Robben Ford thing then Fuchs all the way.  Divided by 13s typically have a very nice semi clean, chimey type tone with lots of harmonics.  The Fuchs would get you more gain and the Divided by 13 perhaps a more natural tone.  I've done the Dumble thing so I'd probably take the Divided by 13 for a spin!  cool

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Re: Divided by 13 vs. Fuchs overdrive supreme

To my knowledge /13 is a vox'y kind of amp.  Rusty Anderson who plays with Paul McCartney uses them for everything and his tone is very Vox'y.  So if you are like me and dig that kind of tone I'd say go with that.  If you want a Dumble sound go with the Fuchs.  They are so totally different amps you have to figure out what you want for tone.

Re: Divided by 13 vs. Fuchs overdrive supreme

Yea.  They're different amps for different vibes.  If you're looking for smooth OD than the Fuchs is hard to beat.  More crunchy British thing than the /13 is your choice.  I see the /13 as a rhythm type amp more than a soaring lead type amp...not that Ive had much exposure to them but the guys I see using them are always more rythmic based players.

Re: Divided by 13 vs. Fuchs overdrive supreme

I'd agree with Danny,

I find the Vox tone exceptional with rhythm work. I play lots of leads but mostly clean with a slight overdrive so Vox works for me. I would really suggest listening to youtube and watching Paul McCartney play reciently.  That guitar tone is /13.

Re: Divided by 13 vs. Fuchs overdrive supreme

Which /13?

I have a Fuchs (2 actually) modded Music Man HD-130 which IMO have the best transformers for High Plate set ups.

I have an EL-34 version and a 6L6 version-

Both have amazing cleans and tons of headroom which is a big portion of what you get out of the /13. Then there's the OD side which is a cascaded gain circuit so gets a bit dumbly.

The El34 version gets more Marshallesgue and the 6l6 version has less (if only slightly) compression and both are loud as F*&CK.

I don't have a ton of love for the /13 as they are more straight AB763 variants for the most part and I can get that and so much more out of a Fuchs amp. they are sort of snoozers in terms of what they do so...

I am hoping to get my hands on a Carol Ann in the next week or so which I need like a 3rd nut but it's an EL34 version which me likey!!

Get the Fuchs.

Thanks for the input guys I believe i'll go with the fuchs I tried another /13 this weekend and it does seem to lend itself more to being a rhythm amp  smile

They're great. I have 5 of them.  cool

Re: Divided by 13 vs. Fuchs overdrive supreme

Guitar Player mag had a wonderful piece on the Divided by 13 amps.  I never knew they were hand wired.   State of the art work on those amps.  Vintage tone with modern reliablity I think you could go either way and not be disappointed.
