Topic: Derek Trucks Nostalgia

Ken and I are going to see Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi New Year's Eve in Jacksonville and I was thinking about the first time we saw Derek Trucks and how blown away we were by this 12 year old kid.  He was playing with this blues band at a club called the Junkyard in Casselberry, Florida.  Anyway, I found this video.  He's 13 or 14 here.  Take a listen. This is so cool.  cool

I should get you guys together with my brother and his wife - he is a HUGE Derek Trucks/Allmans/Warren fan.  They used to live in Florida when Derek was this age, and they too used to go see him when he was quite a youngster - he said half the time he would only look at the back of the stage!  They were with me at HAB last year (my brother actually flew in from Maine for this) and his wife was with me at Crossroads.  If I didn't already have something unchangeable for New Year's weekend I think I would have been on a plane to see the show you are going to.   First time I saw him was back in the early 2000's.  Miss his old band, but love what he is doing with Susan.

Thanks for sharing this.  I'm actually going to see the Allmans tonite - make up class for Crossroads.

We still have two extra tickets for this show if you know anybody that wants to go.  Details are posted in the 'Market Place' topics.
Anyway,  did you see the Allman Brothers?  How did Greg look?  I'll be seeing them again at the Wanee Festival in April.  Love those guys.  Still, I think Derek and Susan did a pretty good job filling in for them at Crossroads. For me, those two are magic when they perform together.  It should be a lot of fun ringing in the new year with them. smile

Saw the Allmans Saturday night (which was Duane's birthday).  Excellent show in a (for them) small venue.  I think there were at most 5,000 there.  Greg looks and sounds great  And so nice to see Warren and Derek together again - Crossroads seems like forever ago.  Derek scares me he is so good.  Played close to 3 hours.
Set List:
Don't Want You No More
It's Not My Cross to Bear
Done Somebody Wrong
Good Morning Little School Girl
Soulshine
Every Hungry Woman
Hootchie Cootchie Man
Dreams
You Don't Love Me
Mountain Jam
The Night they Tore Old Dixie Down (I think this was played for Duane)
That's What Love Will Make You Do
Midnight Rider
Key to the Highway
Mountain Jam
Whipping Post
They are already talking about Wannee in April, and they are returning to the Beacon in March!
