Topic: True Confession
Was cleaning out my wallet this weekend and came across a scribling from my west coast trip. It said, What is Hip? Remix Project Vol 1.... When it finally dawned on me where I got it (that watering hole at the Hotel Del) I googled it up and then checked iTunes and was pleasantly surprised with what I heard. It was a tip from a woman I struck a conversation with about a mutual love of good cover songs. This remix album of 70's AM hits is fantastic. The cool thing is young people will like the modern upgrade to these classics. The songs range from Tony Joe White to America to a funked up/trippy version of Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver" The songs actually are not covers, but originals freshened up. There's a real nice working of The Doobies' "Listen To the Music" and a bossa nova "Midnight At the Oasis.
Naturally all this sounds perfect if you've got a '65 Mustang driving somewhere on Pacific Coast Highway, but even in the hinterland where I live this stuff sounds cool.
