Topic: Poor Man's Jubilee?

I recently purchased what I think will get me in the Jubilee ballpark.  I found a early 90's Marshall JCM 900 Dual Master Volume Mark III head.  I know the JCM 900's get a bad rap but this is a little different animal.  It is not a Dual Reverb or SLX.  I think this model was only made for a couple years.  Basically,a hot-rodded JCM 800?  It sounds good and is very simple.  It is a one channel amp with a foot switchable lead boost (2nd master volume).  It has an effects loop.  I haven't given it a complete workout yet, but so far so good.  Anyone else using one of these?  By the way, I got it for $450.00, but it appears to have had a rough life!  I will give it some TLC.

Re: Poor Man's Jubilee?

I've had one (or two)...easily the best 900...easily.
Sounded better than a few 800s...

900s get a bad rap because people either play the SLXs at low volumes where they sound fizzy (KISS used them btw)...or people get the 50w 900 Dual Reverbs (the later ones) with 6L6s and they sound fragile and just don't have the balls.

That particular 900 with EL34s really roars and gets within the Jub (which I have also owned) easily...get a nice mid-boost in there and some cool speakers and you needn't sell it. Amazing deal too...thought they go for at least $700 over there.

Better than the DSLs too.

Rough? That's rock and roll.
